Samsung Galaxy S8 Not Receiving Text Messages Issue & Other Related Problems

Welcome to another installment of our troubleshooting series where we aim to help our readers who own the #Samsung #Galaxy #S8 fix the issues that they are experiencing with their device. This particular model is the current flagship phone of the South Korean giant that introduces several innovations from last years flagship phone. The first thing you will notice on this device is its large screen real estate. This is due to the 5.8 inch Super AMOLED display of the phone that has an 18:5.9 screen ratio. You will also notice that the phone no longer has a physical home button instead it now uses a virtual home button on the screen. Although this is a solid performing phone there are instances when certain issues can occur which we will be addressing today. In this latest installment of our troubleshooting series we will tackle the Galaxy S8 not receiving text messages issue & other related problems.

S8 Not Receiving Text Messages

Problem: My phone will not receive text messages from anybody on any carrier. It functions properly in every other way except receiving any type of messages. I’ve contacted Samsung and my carrier. They’ve done everything that can be done to the phone even factory reset, removing the sim, etc. But it’s still having the same issue.

Solution: The first thing that you will need to do in this particular case is to isolate the phone and SIM card. Remove the SIM card from your phone then insert it in another device. Check if the issue occurs on this other device. If it does then the problem might be caused by a faulty SIM in which case you should have this replaced. In case the issue does not occur then reinsert the SIM back to your phone then perform the additional troubleshooting steps listed below.

  • Check and make sure that the phone is getting a strong signal from the network.
  • Start the phone in Safe Mode then check if the issue occurs in this mode. If it doesn’t then it could be caused by an app you downloaded. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.
  • Wipe the cache partition of the phone from the recovery mode.
  • Backup your phone data then do a factory reset. Once the reset is complete do not install any apps in your phone yet. Try checking if the issue still occurs.

If the above steps fails to fix the problem then you should bring the phone to a service center and have it checked.

S8 Reboots Everytime Wi-Fi Password Is Typed

Problem: My phone reboots everytime I try to type the Wifi password. I am in Mexico for six weeks with no phone. I don’t want to do a factory reset because I will lose my date. I have no way to back it up with a phone that crashes every minute. I have cleaned the cache. It feels like I said off my right arm with no access to my phone and all the info it houses. Can you help me. I have resurrected an ancient Blackberry in the meantime but it feels (and behaves ) like a dinosaur.

Solution: The first thing that you need to do in this particular case is to make sure that your phone is running on the latest software update . If it already is and the issue remains then you will have to perform a factory reset. Make sure to backup your phone data before doing the reset.

S8 Front Camera Has Purple Vertical Lines

Problem: Hello. I am the owner of Samsung galaxy s8 . Since few days I have front camera problem. Its not working , on the picture purple vertical lines appearing. Is it an update issue ? Because If I do the camera test ,rear and front working.

Solution: What you will want to do first in this case is to check if the problem is caused by a software glitch by performing the troubleshooting steps listed below.

  • Clear the cache and data of the camera app from the application manager then check if the issue still occurs.
  • Start the phone in Safe Mode then check if the issue occurs in this mode. If it doesn’t then it might be caused by an app you downloaded. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.
  • Wipe the cache partition of your phone from the recovery mode.
  • Backup your phone data then do a factory reset. Once the reset is complete immediately check if the issue still occurs.

In case the above steps fails to fix the problem then you will need to bring the phone to a service center and have it checked as this might be caused by a faulty camera module.

S8 Only Turns On When Battery Is 100%

Problem: Anytime I plug my phone in when it’s under 50% it shuts off and if I go to turn it on, it keeps powering off. It only lets me turn it on at 100% but it sometimes take multiple times turning it on in order for it to stay on.

Solution: You should backup your phone data then do a factory reset. Once the reset is complete do not install any apps in your phone yet. Try checking first if the issue still occurs. In case it does then this might be caused by a faulty battery or power IC. You will need to have this checked at a service center.

S8 Not Connecting To Wi-Fi

Problem: Suddenly not connecting to WiFi (I am in my home).  I have the full 5 bars showing for service, the 4GLTE logo but when I check the settings, it just keeps going from saved, secured to connecting but never does.  I tried forgetting the network, and then restarting phone and entering info again, but it still won’t connect.  I just noticed this yesterday.  I have not tried WiFi outside my home. I have Verizon FiOS service in my home.

Solution: Can other devices connect to your Wi-Fi network? If they can’t then you should check your home router. In case other devices can connect to your home Wi-Fi network then proceed with the troubleshooting steps listed below.

  • Start the phone in Safe Mode then check if you are able to connect it to the Wi-Fi network. If the phone connects then the problem could be caused by an app you downloaded. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.
  • Wipe the cache partition of the phone from the recovery mode.
  • Backup your phone data then do a factory reset.
