Samsung Galaxy S10e keeps showing “Settings has stopped” error

The error message “Unfortunately, Settings has stopped” that keeps popping up on your Samsung Galaxy S10e simply means that Settings has crashed for some reason. Fix Settings has stopped error on Galaxy S10e

We have encountered this error several times in the past and I could tell you that it’s not really that serious as long as the firmware hasn’t been modified. All you need to do is some basic troubleshooting procedures. With that being said, here are the things you need to do:

First solution: Force restart your phone

It is possible that the cause of the problem or the reason why the Settings has stopped error keeps showing up is a minor firmware issue or even a glitch. You need to rule this possibility out before anything else and you can do that by performing the forced restart. Here’s how it’s done:

1. Press and hold the Volume Down button and don’t release it yet.
2. While holding down the volume button, press and hold the Power key as well.
3. Keep both keys held down together for 15 seconds or until the Galaxy S10e logo shows on the screen.

Once the phone has restarted, try opening the Settings to trigger the error. You may have to change a setting or two to confirm if the error still pops up or not. If it still does, then move on to the next procedure.

Second solution: Restart your phone in safe mode

Restarting the phone in safe mode doesn’t really fix the problem but will give you an idea as to the cause of the error. What we’re trying to accomplish here is to know if downloaded apps have a hand in this problem. When in safe mode, all third-party applications are temporarily disabled. So, if Settings work without any issues in this mode, it means that one of those apps is causing the problem. Here’s how to restart your phone in this mode:

1. Press and hold the Power key until options show.
2. Tap and hold the Power off option until it changes into Safe Mode.
3. Tap the Safe mode icon to restart your device.
4. Once the reboot is successful, you should see ‘Safe mode’ at the lower-left corner of the screen.

Once your phone reaches this mode, open settings and change a setting or two to see if the Settings has stopped error shows up. If doesn’t, follow these steps to determine the app that’s causing the issue…

1. Restart your phone normal to boot into standard mode.
2. Remember the apps you installed about the time when the phone starts to reboot by itself.
3. Once you already have an app in mind, swipe down from the top of the screen to pull the notification panel down.
4. Tap the Settings icon on the upper-right corner.
5. Scroll to and then tap Apps.
6. Find and tap suspected app.
7. Tap Storage.
8. Touch Clear data and tap OK to confirm.
9. Tap the back key once and then touch Uninstall.
10. Confirm that you want to remove the app from your phone.

On the other hand, if the problem continues and the Settings has stopped error still shows up, then move on to the next solution.

Third solution: Delete the system cache

The fact that Settings crashes the moment you access it, you cannot do something or change some settings or even reset the phone using the usual method. But you have to troubleshoot the firmware at this point so the next thing you should do is delete the system cache so that it will be replaced with a new one. Here’s how it’s done:

1. Turn off the device.
2. Press and hold the Volume Up key and the Bixby key, then press and hold the Power key.
3. When the Galaxy S10e logo shows, release all three keys.
4. Your Galaxy S10e will continue to boot up into the Recovery Mode. Once you see a black screen with blue and yellow texts, proceed to the next step.
5. Press the Volume down key several times to highlight wipe cache partition.
6. Press Power key to select.
7. Press the Volume down key to highlight yes, them and press the Power key to select.
8. When the wipe cache partition is complete, Reboot system now is highlighted.
9. Press the Power key to restart the device.

Once the phone has rebooted, try to see if the Settings has stopped error still shows up. If it still does, then it’s time to perform the Master Reset.

Fourth solution: Backup your files and reset your phone

A master reset will fix this problem, I can assure you that. However, you may lose some of your important files and data so before doing this procedure and despite having a slow device due to the Settings has stopped error, do your best to create a copy of your important files. After that, remove your google and samsung accounts so that you won’t be locked out of your device. Once everything is in order, follow these steps to reset your phone:

1. Turn off the device.
2. Press and hold the Volume Up key and the Bixby key, then press and hold the Power key.
3. When the Galaxy S10e logo shows, release all three keys.
4. Your Galaxy S10e will continue to boot up into the Recovery Mode. Once you see a black screen with blue and yellow texts, proceed to the next step.
5. Press the Volume down key several times to highlight ‘wipe data / factory reset’.
6. Press Power button to select.
7. Press the Volume down key until ‘Yes’ is highlighted.
8. Press Power button to select and start the master reset.
9. When the master reset is complete, ‘Reboot system now’ is highlighted.
10. Press the Power key to restart the device.
