Fixing Galaxy S10e with Messenger has stopped error
App issues like this can be very annoying but they’re not really that hard to fix. In fact, you may be able to fix it after doing just a couple of basic troubleshooting procedures. With that being said, here are the things you need to do to fix this error…
First solution: Try to perform the Forced Reboot
Sometimes problems like this are due to some minor firmware-related problems or even a glitch. They may cause the phone to work differently and may seem like a very serious problem but they’re actually pretty easy to fix. That could be just the case here and that’s the reason why you must perform this procedure first. Here’s how you do it:
- Press and hold the Volume Down button and don’t release it yet.
- While holding down the volume button, press and hold the Power key as well.
- Keep both keys held down together for 15 seconds or until the Galaxy S10e logo shows on the screen.
After the phone has restarted, try to open Messenger and see if the the Messenger has stopped error still shows up. If it still does, then try the next solution.

Second solution: Delete the cache of Messenger
It is very much possible that the cache of the app has been corrupted. A cache is a small, temporary file that helps make the app run smoothly when you use it. Each app has a cache and it’s created by the system. It it a temporary file but when it gets corrupted, it may have an impact on your phone’s overall performance. That could be the case here so to rule this possibility out, follow these steps to delete the old cache and replace it with a new one:
- Swipe down from the top of the screen to pull the notification panel down.
- Tap the Settings icon on the upper-right corner.
- Scroll to and then tap Apps.
- Find and tap Messenger. .
- Tap Storage.
- Touch Clear cache.
After this, try opening the app and see if the Messenger has stopped error still pops up. If it does, then the next step would be to reset the app itself.
Third solution: Reset Messenger
When it comes to apps, a reset means clearing the app’s data files. These files contain the settings and your preferences. When deleted, the app will of course be brought back to its default settings and configuration. If the problem is simply with the app, then this procedure should be able to fix it. Don’t worry, none of your messages will be deleted if you did this. Here’s how it’s done:
- Swipe down from the top of the screen to pull the notification panel down.
- Tap the Settings icon on the upper-right corner.
- Scroll to and then tap Apps.
- Find and tap Messenger.
- Tap Storage.
- Touch Clear data and then tap OK to confirm.
- Once the app is reset, restart your phone to refresh its memory.
After the reboot, try to see if the Messenger has stopped error still shows up and if it does, then move on to the next solution.

Fourth solution: Uninstall Messenger and then reinstall it
Unlike the main Facebook app, Messenger doesn’t come pre-installed on your Galaxy S10e. Which means you may have downloaded or installed it in the past. It also means that you can uninstall this app and that’s what you need to do now. Uninstall Messenger so that all its associations with the firmware and other applications will be removed as well. This is how you do that:
- Swipe down from the top of the screen to pull the notification panel down.
- Tap the Settings icon on the upper-right corner.
- Scroll to and then tap Apps.
- Find and tap Messenger.
- Tap Storage.
- Touch Clear data and tap OK to confirm.
- Tap the back key once and then touch Uninstall.
- Confirm that you want to remove the app from your phone.
- Once Messenger is removed, restart your phone.
After the reboot, it’s time to reinstall the app. You can then rest assured that you’re using the most recent version of the app. This is how you do it:
- From the home screen, pull up the app drawer.
- Find and then tap Google Play Store.
- In the search field, key in ‘messenger’ and then hit search.
- Tap Messenger and then touch Install.
- Once the installation is complete, tap Open.
If the Messenger has stopped error still keeps on popping up after this, then you have no other choice but to reset your device.

After doing all the previous procedures above and your phone is still showing the Messenger has stopped error, the next thing you have to do is to reset your phone as it could be just a sign of a firmware issue. It is also possible that Messenger is just one of the apps in your device that also crash. Before the reset however, make sure to create a backup of your important files and data so that you won’t lose anything. After that, remove both your Google and Samsung accounts so that you won’t be locked out of your device after the reset. Once everything is in order, follow these steps to reset your phone:
- Turn off the device.
- Press and hold the Volume Up key and the Bixby key, then press and hold the Power key.
- When the Galaxy S10e logo shows, release all three keys.
- Your Galaxy S10e will continue to boot up into the Recovery Mode. Once you see a black screen with blue and yellow texts, proceed to the next step.
- Press the Volume down key several times to highlight ‘wipe data / factory reset’.
- Press Power button to select.
- Press the Volume down key until ‘Yes’ is highlighted.
- Press Power button to select and start the master reset.
