Troubleshooting Galaxy Note 8 that’s stuck on Verizon screen

The purpose of this troubleshooting guide is for us to know what the problem with your phone is so that we can formulate a solution that may fix it for good. Based on our experience, this kind of problem is easier to fix than it seems and with all that being said, here’s what I suggest you do about it…

Force restart your Note 8

A glitch in the system may also result to being stuck while booting up so the first thing you have to do is to do the Forced Restart procedure. It’s simple and easy to do but very effective in dealing with system crashes or glitches.

  • Press and hold the Volume Down button and without letting go of it, hold the Power key. Keep them pressed for 10 seconds and your phone will attempt to restart.

Assuming your Note 8 successfully booted up after doing this, it’s obvious that it suffered from a minor crash. You may be able to use your phone now that it started successfully but there’s no guarantee the problem would never occur again in the future. Nevertheless, it’s a fix and it worked.

However, if the phone is still stuck on the Verizon screen even after doing the Forced Restart procedure, move on to the next step.

Attempt to boot your phone up in Safe mode

After ruling out the possibility that this problem is due to a minor system crash, it’s time to move on to another possibility; one or some of the apps you installed might be causing the problem. Pre-installed apps are often updated during firmware updates since they are deeply integrated into the system so there’s a slim chance one of them is causing the problem. Third-party apps however, get updates from the Play Store or their developers might not have rolled out an update to patch issues. Needless to say, they have a higher chance of causing app-related issues.

So, to isolate the problem, it’s best that you try running your phone up in Safe mode. Why is it important? It’s because while in this environment, all third-party elements are temporarily disabled, so it follows that if one of them is causing the problem, the phone should be able to start normally in safe mode. Here’s how you boot your Note 8 in this mode:

  1. Turn the device off.
  2. Press and hold the Power key past the model name screen.
  3. When “SAMSUNG” appears on the screen, release the Power key.
  4. Immediately after releasing the Power key, press and hold the Volume down key.
  5. Continue to hold the Volume down key until the device finishes restarting.
  6. Safe mode will display in the bottom left corner of the screen.
  7. Release the Volume down key when you see Safe Mode.

Assuming that the phone successfully started in this mode, the next thing you need to is find the app that’s causing the problem and uninstall it. You may have to uninstall more than one app to fix the problem and reboot your phone in normal mode countless times. This is how you uninstall an app from your phone:

  1. From the Home screen, swipe up on an empty spot to open the Apps tray.
  2. Tap Settings > Apps.
  3. Tap the desired application in the default list or tap 3 dots icon > Show system apps to display preinstalled apps.
  4. Tap the desired application.
  5. Tap Uninstall.
  6. Tap Uninstall again to confirm.

On the other hand, if the phone is still stuck on the same screen even if you’re trying to start it up in safe mode, try doing the next step.

Start in Recovery mode and wipe cache partition

Even if this is a serious firmware issue, for as long as you didn’t modify the firmware (like rooting or installing a custom ROM), you may still be able to start it up in Recovery Mode. The Android system recovery menu offers several ways to address various problems with your phone that’s why it’s considered the fail-safe of almost all Android devices. I want you to start your device in this mode and wipe the cache partition first:

  1. Turn off the device.
  2. Press and hold the Volume Up key and the Bixby key, then press and hold the Power key.
  3. When the green Android logo displays, release all keys (‘Installing system update’ will show for about 30 – 60 seconds before showing the Android system recovery menu options).
  4. Press the Volume down key several times to highlight ‘wipe cache partition’.
  5. Press Power button to select.
  6. Press the Volume down key until ‘yes’ is highlighted and press the Power button.
  7. When the wipe cache partition is complete, “Reboot system now” is highlighted.
  8. Press the Power key to restart the device.

Don’t worry, none of your files and data will be deleted if you did this but if the problem still persists after doing this procedure, you have to do the next step.

Go back in Recovery mode and do the Master reset

You only have to do this if you’ve successfully booted up in Recovery mode and wiped the cache partition to no avail. Please note that you will lose every personal file and data saved in your phone’s internal storage and you may not be able to recover them after. But at this point, it seems you really don’t have much of an option but to reset your phone and compromise those files. This is how you reset your phone…

  1. Turn off the device.
  2. Press and hold the Volume Up key and the Bixby key, then press and hold the Power key.
  3. When the green Android logo displays, release all keys (‘Installing system update’ will show for about 30 – 60 seconds before showing the Android system recovery menu options).
  4. Press the Volume down key several times to highlight “wipe data / factory reset.
  5. Press Power button to select.
  6. Press the Volume down key until ‘Yes — delete all user data’ is highlighted.
  7. Press Power button to select and start the master reset.
  8. When the master reset is complete, “Reboot system now” is highlighted.
  9. Press the Power key to restart the device.

However, if you cannot bring your phone to start in recovery mode or if a reset doesn’t help, then you should bring your phone to a tech to have it checked thoroughly. I hope that this troubleshooting guide can help you.
