Note 4 Shuts Off Randomly

Problem: HI, I’m having an issue with my note 4, the other night it just shut itself off randomly I turned it back on but it would go past the Samsung screen before switch itself off and restarting before doing it again, I plug in my charger and it’s good as gold for less than an hour before shutting itself off again

Solution: The first thing that you should check in cases like this is if a glitch in the phone software is causing the problem. To do this you will need to backup your phone data then do a factory reset. Once the reset is complete do not install anything in your device just yet. Try to check first if the same issue occurs. If it does then the problem could be hardware related. In this case you will need to replace the phone battery to verify if a defective battery is causing this problem.

If the above steps fail to fix the problem then you should have your phone checked at a service center that’s capable of doing board level repairs since there might be a component inside the phone ( possibly a power IC that’s defective).

Note 4 Battery Drains Quickly

Problem: I have been having some serious battery issues lately. It drains power quickly and it just doesn’t last as long as it used to. My phone froze up so I took the battery out and replaced it. Before I took it out my phone was at 58% and when I rebooted it it was at 84%. I then was busy for about 3 hours and didn’t use my phone at all. When I came back it was at 45%. I then took the battery out and put it back in and my phone then went to 24%. What is happening?

Solution: There are two possible causes for this type of issue. First, some app or corrupt data is causing the processor to run constantly thus draining the battery. The second possible reason is that the battery your phone is using could be defective.

For the first scenario you would need to backup your phone data then do a factory reset ( if your phone has a microSD card installed then take it out). Once the reset is complete do not install any apps in your phone just yet. Try to check first if the problem still occurs.

If the issue is caused  by the second scenario then you should try replacing your battery with a new one.

Note 4 Turns On and Off

Problem: Hello, My Galaxy Note 4 turned off and on by itself. This has been happening for a week. Sometimes it didn’t turn off & on by itself for a day, sometimes for few hours. But for the last 19 hours, I have been trying to turn it on and it doesn’t. Battery is new, bought from Samsung account in Amazon. Last application installed a month before the problem started. Thank for your help

Solution: Before troubleshooting the phone you need to make sure that it is turned on. To do this try charging the phone then turn it on. You should also try replacing the battery to check if it is causing the problem.

One the phone turns on proceed with the troubleshooting steps below.

Just like the issues that we have addressed above you should try to check if the phone software is causing this issue.

First, check if an app installed in your phone is causing this problem by starting your phone in Safe Mode. When your phone works in this mode only the pre-installed apps are allowed to run making it easier for you to check if the problem is caused by an app you downloaded. Try to check if the issue occurs in this mode. If it doesn’t then it could be caused by an app. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.

You should also check if a corrupt cached data is causing this problem. To do this start the phone in recovery mode then wipe the cache partition from here.

If the above steps fail to fix the problem then you should do a factory reset. This will delete your phone data so make sure to have a backup copy.

If the issue persists then bring your phone to a service center that’s capable of doing board level repairs.

Note 4 Restarts On Its Own

Problem: When my phone reaches 20% my galaxy note 4 completely turns off and when i put it on the charger it says its at 0% and this problem happened ever since i got the phone. i just recently updated the phone and now it restarts itself when its at 40-43%. i’m not sure what to do at all and i tried downloading apps to clean my battery and everything but it doesn’t do anything. please help me.

Solution: Try starting your phone in Safe Mode then check if the issue occurs in this mode. If it doesn’t then it is most likely caused by an app installed in your phone. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.

If your phone has a microSD card installed try removing it as well since a corrupt card can also cause this issue.

To check if a glitch in the phone software is causing this problem you need to backup your phone data then do a factory reset.

One last troubleshooting step that you can do is to replace your phone battery as this might be causing the problem.

Note 4 Does Not Turn On

Problem: Bought a used note 4. Worked ok at first with latest so upgrade AT&T. But would stop working at 80% battery. Would take out battery and then it would charge back up and next time it failed at 84%. And so on up to above 90%. So tried factory reset. Failed to fix it. Now at 100% it will not come on. Ordered a new battery to see if that will work. ls the phone just be bad? Have only had it for 2 weeks.

Solution: It looks like this issue is caused by some component inside the phone that has failed to work.

Since you have already performed a factory reset and even replaced the battery I suggest you bring this to a service center and have it checked. It’s possible that some component inside the device has been damaged.

Note 4 Freezes Not Turning On

Problem: Hello, my phone started acting up about 2 weeks ago. it would freeze, and start working again.  Than it started to freeze and have a black screen. finally it would freeze, black screen, and turn off and on by itself. finally last night I put it to charge for about 1.5hours b4 I had to go to work at midnight and it would not even turn on anymore. I have a note 4. is there anything I can do to save this phone? I have tried the 123 and the smack phone about 30 times and nothing has helped…

Solution: The first thing that you should do right now is to make sure that the phone is getting power from the battery so that it will turn on. Follow the troubleshooting steps listed below then move to the next step if the issue still occurs.

  • Clean the charging port of your phone. Make sure to take out any dirt or debris that could be in the port. To clean the port use a can of compressed air or blow into it using a straw. Charge your phone for 20 minutes then turn it on.
  • Try using a different charging cord when charging your phone.
  • Try using a different wall charger.
  • Replace the battery with a new one
  • Check if the phone turns on in recovery mode. If it does then you need to perform a factory reset from here. Take note that thi will delete your phone data.

If the above steps fail to fix the problem then you should bring your phone to a service center and have it checked.

Note 4 Black Screen Not Responding

Problem: Hello. My samsung note 4 is in a black screen and not responding to anything. I removed the battery and pressed the power button about 3 minutes then inserted it but couldn’t turn on. I also tried to reboot by pressing the 3 buttons it but it couldn’t get to any mode. It’s totally a black screen. Maybe an application i tried to download 2 days ago was a virus. So what may be the problem and what’s the solution please.

Solution: Try connecting your phone to its charger for 20 minutes then turn it on. If it still does not turn on then perform the troubleshooting steps listed below.

  • Take out the battery and microSD card (if your phone has one installed). Press and hold the power button for at least a minute. This will discharge the phone circuit and clear out its RAM. Reinsert just the battery then check if the phone will turn on.
  • Connect the phone to its wall charger for 20 minutes then turn it on.
  • Check if you can turn on your phone in recovery mode. If you can then do a factory reset from here. Take note that this will delete your phone data.
  • Replace the battery with a new one.

If the issue still occurs even after performing the steps listed above then you should have your phone checked at a service center.
