How to Fix Blurry Camera on Samsung Galaxy Phones

A blurry camera on your Samsung Galaxy phone can be caused by a dirty lens, software glitches, or incorrect settings. Here are all the methods to fix blurry photos on both the rear and front cameras.

Method 1: Clean the Camera Lens

The most common cause of blurry photos is a dirty or smudged camera lens. Fingerprints, dust, and oils build up on the lens over time.

  1. Use a clean, soft microfiber cloth to gently wipe the camera lens.
  2. Do not use paper towels or tissues as they can scratch the lens.
  3. Check for any visible scratches or damage on the lens glass.
  4. Clean both the rear and front camera lenses.
  5. Open the camera app and check if the image is now clear.

Method 2: Remove Your Phone Case

Some phone cases can partially cover the camera lens or cause reflections that result in blurry images.

  1. Remove your phone case completely.
  2. Open the camera app and take a test photo.
  3. If the blur is gone, check if your case is misaligned or has a poorly positioned camera cutout.
  4. Replace the case if it is causing camera interference.

Method 3: Restart Your Phone

A software glitch in the camera app can cause focus issues that make every photo look blurry.

  1. Press and hold the Power button (or Power + Volume Down on newer Samsung phones).
  2. Tap Restart.
  3. Wait for the phone to fully restart.
  4. Open the camera and take a test photo.

Method 4: Clear Camera App Cache

Corrupted cache files in the camera app can cause focusing and image quality problems.

  1. Go to Settings, then Apps.
  2. Find and tap Camera.
  3. Tap Storage.
  4. Tap Clear cache.
  5. Open the camera app and test again.

Method 5: Disable Scene Optimizer

Scene Optimizer uses AI to enhance photos, but it can sometimes over-process images and make them look blurry or artificially smooth.

  1. Open the Camera app.
  2. Tap the Settings gear icon in the top left.
  3. Find Scene optimizer and toggle it off.
  4. Take a test photo to see if the quality improves.

Method 6: Reset Camera Settings

Incorrect camera settings can cause focus, exposure, or processing issues that result in blurry photos.

  1. Open the Camera app.
  2. Tap the Settings gear icon.
  3. Scroll down and tap Reset settings.
  4. Confirm the reset.
  5. Test the camera with default settings.

Method 7: Check for Software Updates

Samsung frequently releases camera improvements through software updates that can fix known focus and image quality bugs.

  1. Go to Settings, then Software update.
  2. Tap Download and install.
  3. Install any available updates and restart your phone.
  4. Test the camera after updating.

Method 8: Boot into Safe Mode

Safe Mode disables all third-party apps. If the camera works fine in Safe Mode, a downloaded app is causing the problem.

  1. Press and hold the Power button until the power menu appears.
  2. Press and hold the Power off option until the Safe mode prompt appears.
  3. Tap Safe mode to restart.
  4. Test the camera in Safe Mode.
  5. If the camera works fine, uninstall recently downloaded apps one at a time to find the culprit.
  6. Restart normally to exit Safe Mode.

Method 9: Factory Reset

If no other method works and the blur is not caused by physical damage, a factory reset can resolve deep software issues. Back up all your data first.

  1. Go to Settings, then General management, then Reset.
  2. Tap Factory data reset.
  3. Review the information and tap Reset.
  4. Enter your PIN or password to confirm.
  5. Tap Delete all and wait for the phone to reset.
  6. Set up your phone and test the camera.
