Troubleshooting Galaxy A5 that got stuck on the logo and won’t continue booting up
This troubleshooting guide will focus on how to bring your phone to successfully boot up. We will try to do every procedure that might fix the problem but we won’t be suggesting things that can potentially damage your phone even more. After all, this problem might be just a minor one we may be able to fix it on our own without any help from a tech. With that said, here’s what I suggest you do…
Perform the Forced Reboot procedure
I’ve seen issues like this in the past that were caused by some minor glitches in the system. So, the first thing we will have to do about it is forced restart which will refresh the phone’s memory. It’s basically like a normal reboot only that you will be simulating battery disconnect which has the same effects as the battery pull procedure.
Press and hold the Volume Down and the Power keys together for 10 seconds regardless whether is powered on or off. It will try to boot up normally and if it becomes successful this time, that might be the end of the problem but continue observing your phone as there’s no guarantee the problem would never occur again.
However, if the problem still gets stuck on the logo after doing this, then move on to the next step.

Try running your phone in Safe mode
There are times when apps crash and cause the system to crash as well. It’s common to third-party apps since their updates are rolled out by their respective developers. We need to rule out this possibility by running your phone in safe mode. In this environment, all third-party apps are temporarily disabled so logically if the phone can successfully boot in this mode, there should be apps that cause the problem.
Here’s how you boot your phone into safe mode:
- Turn the device off.
- Press and hold the Power key past the model name screen.
- When “SAMSUNG” appears on the screen, release the Power key.
- Immediately after releasing the Power key, press and hold the Volume down key.
- Continue to hold the Volume down key until the device finishes restarting.
- Safe mode will display in the bottom left corner of the screen.
- Release the Volume down key when you see Safe Mode.
If the phone successfully booted up in this mode, then we’re already halfway to fixing this problem. Move on to the next step to be guided on how to deal with possible app-related problem.
Uninstall third-party apps that might be causing the problem
You can only this procedure if you have successfully booted your phone up in safe mode. I know it’s easier said than done but do your best to find the app that’s causing the problem. Begin your search from recently installed apps. If you have to uninstall them all one by one then do it. This is how you uninstall an app from your Galaxy A5:
- From the Home screen, tap the Apps tray.
- Tap Settings > Applications.
- Find and tap the app in question.
- Tap Uninstall.
- Tap Uninstall again to confirm.
Remember, you can only uninstall third-party apps. Pre-installed ones can only be reset or disabled. Every time you uninstall an app, try to boot your phone into normal mode to see if it goes through; this is your way of determining if the problem is fixed or not.
If you have a lot of apps in your phone already and that it would take you several hours to go through them one by one, then it’s better that you just make a backup of your important files while you’re in safe mode and then do the reset.
- Back up data on the internal memory. If you have signed into a Google account on the device, you have activated Anti-theft and will need your Google credentials to finish the Master reset.
- From the Home screen, tap the Apps tray.
- Tap Settings > Cloud and accounts.
- Tap Backup and restore.
- If desired, tap Back up my data to move the slider to ON or OFF.
- If desired, tap Restore to move the slider to ON or OFF.
- Tap the back button to the Settings menu and tap General Management > Reset > Factory data reset.
- Tap Reset.
- If you have screen lock turned on, enter your credentials.
- Tap Continue.
- Tap Delete all.
However, if your phone is still stuck even if you’re booting it up in safe mode, then move on to the next step.
Try booting your phone up in Recovery Mode
After trying to boot up the phone in safe mode and failed, the next thing you have to do is try to bring it to start in recovery mode as it may be a firmware issue. There are a couple of things that you can do if the phone successfully boots up in this mode; you can try wiping the cache partition first and if that fails, you can do the master reset. Go through each procedure below to know how to do these methods:
Start A5 in recovery mode and wipe cache partition
The following steps will delete all system caches and replace them with new ones the moment the phone boots up.
- Turn off the device.
- Press and hold the Volume Up key and the Home key, then press and hold the Power key.
- When the Android logo displays, release all keys (‘Installing system update’ will show for about 30 – 60 seconds, then ‘No command’ before showing the Android system recovery menu options).
- Press the Volume down key several times to highlight “wipe cache partition”.
- Press Power button to select.
- Press the Volume down key to highlight “yes” and press the Power key to select.
- When the wipe cache partition is complete, “Reboot system now” is highlighted.
- Press the Power key to restart the device.
Run Galaxy A5 in recovery mode and do the master reset
Assuming you’ve successfully wiped off the cache partition but the phone is still stuck on the logo when it tries to boot up, then this is what you need to do. For firmware issues, a master reset is very effective and this is how you do it…
- Turn off the device.
- Press and hold the Volume Up key and the Home key, then press and hold the Power key.
- When the Android logo displays, release all keys (‘Installing system update’ will show for about 30 – 60 seconds, then ‘No command’ before showing the Android system recovery menu options).
- Press the Volume down key several times to highlight “wipe data / factory reset.
- Press Power button to select.
- Press the Volume down key until ‘Yes — delete all user data’ is highlighted.
- Press Power button to select and start the master reset.
- When the master reset is complete, “Reboot system now” is highlighted.
- Press the Power key to restart the device.
I hope that this troubleshooting guide can help you one way or another. If you tried to root and install custom ROM prior to this problem, then you just have to flash the stock firmware to get this problem fixed.
