Troubleshooting your Galaxy A50 that’s stuck on the Black Screen of Death

The black screen of death is actually just another name for the system crash. There are times when the firmware ceases to run and this will result to it being stuck on the black screen and would no longer respond. But don’t worry, such issue is actually pretty easy to fix. Here’s what you need to do:

First solution: Force restart your phone

The very first thing that you must do if your Galaxy A50 is stuck on the black screen for some reason and would no longer turn back on is the forced restart. It is a simulated battery removal and very effective in fixing problems like this. Most of the time, it will make an unresponsive device respond again. It will also refresh the memory of the device as well as reload all apps and services. It’s a very simple procedure yet very effective. Here’s how it’s done:

  1. Press and hold the Volume Down button and don’t release it yet.
  2. While holding down the volume button, press and hold the Power key as well.
  3. Keep both keys held down together for 15 seconds or until the Galaxy A50 logo shows on the screen.

If the logo shows, then that’s a sign that the phone is already responding as you could that, at this point, the problem is already fixed. However, if the phone remains on the black screen and won’t respond, then try doing the same procedure a few more times to see if you can make the phone respond. If not, then move on to the next procedure.

Second solution: Charge phone and do the forced restart

Having a phone with a drained battery isn’t usually a problem because most of the time, any device would respond immediately once connected to the power adapter that’s plugged into an outlet. However, there are times when a simple battery draining issue would lead in a system crash and that could be the case here. To address this, here’s what you need to do:

  1. Plug the charger to a working wall outlet.
  2. Using the original cable, connect the phone to its charger.
  3. Regardless of whether the phone shows the charging symbol or not, leave it connected to the charger for at least 10 minutes.
  4. After which and while the phone is still connected to the charger, press and hold the Volume Down button and don’t release it yet.
  5. While holding down the volume button, press and hold the Power key as well.
  6. Keep both keys held down together for 15 seconds or until the Galaxy A50 logo shows on the screen.

If your phone responded to this procedure, then problem solved. However, if it is still stuck on the black screen and won’t respond, then it’s time to bring it back to the store and have the tech check it for you.

On the other hand, if you were able to fix the problem and make your phone respond but the issue occurs from time to time, then you must reset your phone. That’s the ultimate solution to minor firmware issue. However, make sure to create a backup of your important files and data as they will be deleted. After the backup, remove both your Google and Samsung accounts so that you won’t be locked out. When ready, follow these steps to reset your phone:

  1. Turn off the device.
  2. Press and hold the Volume Up key and the Bixby key, then press and hold the Power key.
  3. When the Galaxy A50 logo shows, release all three keys.
  4. Your Galaxy A50 will continue to boot up into the Recovery Mode. Once you see a black screen with blue and yellow texts, proceed to the next step.
  5. Press the Volume down key several times to highlight ‘wipe data / factory reset’.
  6. Press Power button to select.
  7. Press the Volume down key until ‘Yes’ is highlighted.
  8. Press Power button to select and start the master reset.
  9. When the master reset is complete, ‘Reboot system now’ is highlighted.
  10. Press the Power key to restart the device.
