Quick fix for Samsung Galaxy A50 that’s showing the “camera failed” error

Troubleshooting Galaxy A50 with ‘Camera failed’ error
In troubleshooting a smartphone with ‘Camera failed’ error, you need to be thorough so as not to skip one solution that may fix the problem. That’s what we’re gonna do in this post and with that being said, here’s what you should do:
First solution: Force restart your phone to fix ‘Camera failed’ error
I personally encountered this problem in the past, quite a lot, actually, and I know that this could also be due to an app that’s also using the camera by the time you launched the default camera app. Android only allows one application to use any of the camera sensors at a time. If the sensor is already used by one app and then you open another app to use the same sensor, the warning ‘Camera failed’ will pop up. It is therefore, very effective to perform the Forced Restart as it refreshes your phone’s memory, closes all apps running in the background, as well as reloads all services. This is how you do it:
- Press and hold the Volume Down button and don’t release it yet.
- While holding down the volume button, press and hold the Power key as well.
- Keep both keys held down together for 15 seconds or until the Galaxy A50 logo shows on the screen.
Once the phone has finished restarting, open the camera app and see if the ‘Camera failed’ error still shows. If it still does, then move on to the next solution.

Second solution: Make sure it’s not caused by a third-party app
It is also possible that one of your downloaded apps is triggering the error. The camera is one of the most used apps or services on your phone and there are thousands of third-party applications that use it. So, to rule this possibility out, you need to run your device in safe mode to temporarily disable all third-party apps. Here’s how you do that;
- Press and hold the Power key until options show.
- Tap and hold the Power off option until it changes into Safe Mode.
- Tap the Safe mode icon to restart your device.
- Once the reboot is successful, you should see ‘Safe mode’ at the lower-left corner of the screen.
While in safe mode, open Camera and try taking pictures to see if the ‘Camera failed’ error still pops up. If the problem is fixed while the phone is in this mode, then it means that one of the apps you installed is causing the problem. Follow these steps to probe further:
- Restart your phone normal to boot into standard mode.
- Remember the apps you installed about the time when the ‘camera failed’ error started to show up.
- Once you already have an app in mind, swipe down from the top of the screen to pull the notification panel down.
- Tap the Settings icon on the upper-right corner.
- Scroll to and then tap Apps.
- Find and tap suspected app.
- Tap Storage.
- Touch Clear data and tap OK to confirm.
- Tap the back key once and then touch Uninstall.
- Confirm that you want to remove the app from your phone.
On the other hand, if the error continues to show even in safe mode, then move on to the next solution.

Third solution: Reset the camera
The next thing you have to do when the problem continues to show after doing the first two procedures is to clear the cache and data of the camera app. There’s always a possibility that it’s just an app problem affecting the hardware. To do this, follow these steps:
- Swipe down from the top of the screen to pull the notification panel down.
- Tap the Settings icon on the upper-right corner.
- Scroll to and then tap Apps.
- Find and tap APP NAME.
- Tap Storage.
- Touch Clear cache.
- Touch Clear data and then tap OK to confirm.
After this doesn’t fix the problem and the error ‘Camera failed’ continues to pop up, then it’s time to troubleshoot the firmware itself.
Fourth solution: Delete the system cache
Deleting the system cache will rule out the possibility that this problem is caused by some corrupt cached files. Android creates set of temporary files that it uses to make the phone run smoothly. Sometimes, those files get corrupted and so the best thing you can do is delete the cache so that a new one will be created. Here’s how it’s done:
- Turn off the device.
- Press and hold the Volume Up key and the Bixby key, then press and hold the Power key.
- When the Galaxy A50 logo shows, release all three keys.
- Your Galaxy A50 will continue to boot up into the Recovery Mode. Once you see a black screen with blue and yellow texts, proceed to the next step.
- Press the Volume down key several times to highlight wipe cache partition.
- Press Power key to select.
- Press the Volume down key to highlight yes, them and press the Power key to select.
- When the wipe cache partition is complete, Reboot system now is highlighted.
- Press the Power key to restart the device.
Once your phone has rebooted successfully, immediately access camera to see if the ‘Warning: Camera failed’ error still shows up. If it still does, then move on to the next solution.

Fifth solution: Perform the master reset
After doing all those procedures and the camera still keeps on failing, then the next thing you have to do is to reset your phone. This will rule out the possibility that the error is triggered by a firmware issue. Prior to the reset however, make sure to create a copy of your important files and data as they will be deleted. Also, remove both your Google and Samsung accounts so that you won’t be locked out of your phone after the reset. Once everything is ready, follow these steps to reset your phone:
- Turn off the device.
- Press and hold the Volume Up key and the Bixby key, then press and hold the Power key.
- When the Galaxy A50 logo shows, release all three keys.
- Your Galaxy A50 will continue to boot up into the Recovery Mode. Once you see a black screen with blue and yellow texts, proceed to the next step.
- Press the Volume down key several times to highlight ‘wipe data / factory reset’.
- Press Power button to select.
- Press the Volume down key until ‘Yes’ is highlighted.
- Press Power button to select and start the master reset.
- When the master reset is complete, ‘Reboot system now’ is highlighted.
- Press the Power key to restart the device.
If the ‘Camera failed’ error continues after the reset, then everything is now pointing to a hardware issue being the cause of this problem. It’s time you brought the phone back to the store so that a technician can check it for you.
