Pocophone Poco F2 Release Date, News, and Rumors
The Poco F2 by Pocophone is expected to succeed the Poco F1 from last year. Although quite limited to its markets, the F1 has seen a wide reach in and around Asia. Poco is a sub-brand of Xiaomi and is only available in a handful of regions in the world.
While the Poco F1 was a relative success last year, there are high expectations from the intended successor, the Poco F2. The smartphone is expected to bring quite a few improvements to the table over the predecessor. So we’re going to take a closer look at few of the features and specs that have been rumored so far.
Pocophone Poco F2 Release Date, News and Rumors
Pocophone Poco F2 News
A recent report mentioned that the Poco F2 may not come with 5G on board in some markets. Although it is still hoped that the phone will have 5G capabilities in a handful of markets.
Late last year, case manufacturer Spigen listed a cover meant for the Poco F2 showing a smartphone with a pop-up selfie camera, thus confirming one of the key aspects of this upcoming smartphone.
Pocophone Poco F2 Release Date
While it was hoped that the Poco F2 would be unveiled in early 2020, the company managed to surprise everyone by releasing the Poco X2 instead. It’s likely that the company has waited to get Qualcomm’s 5G-compatible high-end SoC, the Snapdragon 865. With rumors indicating that this phone will have some variants in 5G, that’s a fair estimate to make.
However, the phone should arrive anytime between Q3 and Q4 of 2020 as per our estimates, although it may arrive much sooner.
Pocophone Poco F2 Rumors
Size & Design
Going by the recently launched Poco X2, it’s likely that the company will utilize a glass back panel made of sturdy Gorilla Glass 5. While it should be held together with an aluminum frame, there will now be glass on both sides. This is a big shift from the Poco F1’s plastic back panel, and may also make the phone slightly heavier.
Display
While there’s no confirmation on this front, the Poco F2 will reportedly pack a 6.67-inch AMOLED panel with Full HD+ resolution. It will also have a 2.5D curved glass for better protection, while the display will be protected by Corning’s Gorilla Glass 5. The company may also offer a 120 Hz display refresh rate on the F2, although this cannot be definitively said at this point.
Camera
Rumors have mentioned that the F2 will use a triple-camera layout on the back consisting of a 64MP primary sensor, a 13MP ultrawide sensor, and an 8MP telephoto lens.
As we briefly mentioned above, the Poco F2 will likely have a pop-up selfie camera, a concept that multiple manufacturers have tried, but not quite embraced fully. The Poco F2 will likely use a 20MP sensor for selfies and video calls, which should be accompanied by a ton of software features to enhance user experience.
Other features
In terms of performance, the phone is rumored to be packing the octa-core Snapdragon 865 SoC, which is also running on flagships like the Galaxy S20, and will likely power juggernauts like the Galaxy Note 20 later this year. This also brings about the possibility of the phone packing 5G support in at least a few markets.
In terms of RAM, Poco F2 will be right up there with the flagship offerings, reportedly offering variants with 6GB and 8GB of RAM. Storage shouldn’t be a concern here either, as the phone is rumored to come with 128 or 256GB of storage to start with. If that’s not enough, the microSD card slot can be put to good use.
Thankfully, the Poco F2 will come with an in-display optical fingerprint scanner. This will come as a big upgrade from the F1’s rear-mounted fingerprint sensor.
Unfortunately, the Poco F2 will lack a headphone jack, which is one of the features that many praised with the Poco F1 last year.
Android 10 should be running by default on the Poco F2 when it launches later this year. Since Poco belongs to Xiaomi, it will run MIUI 11 which is based on Android 10.
The phone is reportedly packing a 4,700 mAh battery under the hood with support for 33W fast charging tech, making it a big upgrade from the predecessor.
Pocophone Poco F2 Price
Rumors predict that the phone may be priced at under $500 at launch, although given that it is also expected to pack 5G on board, we think this may be wishful thinking on our part. We should learn more about the pricing structure as we get closer to the Poco F2’s release.
When is Pocofone Poco F2 launching?
It seems like the company has delayed the launch due to the ongoing pandemic, although the phone will likely hit the markets over the next few months.
Will the Pocophone Poco F2 have water resistance?
Rumors say the phone will not possess water resistance although the company hasn’t confirmed this yet.
Does the Poco F2 have headphone jack?
Despite the Poco F1 offering a dedicated 3.5mm headphone jack, it seems like the Poco F2 may miss out on the feature.
