Troubleshooting Galaxy A10 with ‘Messages keeps stopping’ error
When trying to fix a problem like this, you have to be thorough so that you can accurately determine what the problem is. With that being said, here’s what you should do about it:
First solution: Perform the forced restart
The very first thing you have to do when troubleshooting a problem like this is the forced restart. It’s a simulated battery removal that will refresh your phone’s memory and reload all services. If the ‘Messages keeps stopping’ error is caused by a minor firmware issue, then this procedure may be able to fix it. Here’s how it’s done:
- Press and hold the Volume Down button and don’t release it yet.
- While holding down the volume button, press and hold the Power key as well.
- Keep both keys held down together for 15 seconds or until the Galaxy A10 logo shows on the screen.
Once your phone has finished rebooting, open the app and see if the ‘Messages keeps stopping’ error still shows up. If it does, move on to the next solution.

Second solution: Clear the cache and data of Messages app
Clearing the cache and data of the Messages app will reset it back to its default settings and configuration. It deletes the cache and data files, and then replace them with new ones. If this is a problem with the app, then this procedure should be able to fix it. Here’s how you do it:
- Go to the screen where the Messages app icon is located.
- Tap and hold on the Messages icon until options show.
- Tap App info.
- Touch Storage.
- Tap Clear cache.
- Now, tap Clear data and touch OK to confirm.
After this, launch the app and see if the ‘Messages keeps stopping’ error still pops up. If it does, then move on to the next solution.
Third solution: Make sure it’s not due to a third party app
There are times when third party apps cause pre-installed applications to crash. That’s why it’s very important to run your phone in safe mode to know if this is the case. While in safe mode, all third-party applications are temporarily disabled. If Messages works fine in this mode, then it means there’s really a third party app that’s causing the problem. So, here’s how you run your phone in safe mode:
- Press and hold the Power key until options show.
- Tap and hold the Power off option until it changes into Safe Mode.
- Tap the Safe mode icon to restart your device.
- Once the reboot is successful, you should see ‘Safe mode’ at the lower-left corner of the screen.
Assuming that the problem is fixed while in this mode, here’s what you should do next…
- Restart your phone normal to boot into standard mode.
- Remember the apps you installed about the time when the error started to show.
- Once you already have an app in mind, swipe down from the top of the screen to pull the notification panel down.
- Tap the Settings icon on the upper-right corner.
- Scroll to and then tap Apps.
- Find and tap suspected app.
- Tap Storage.
- Touch Clear data and tap OK to confirm.
- Tap the back key once and then touch Uninstall.
- Confirm that you want to remove the app from your phone.
On the other hand, if the error continues to bug you down even in safe mode, then move on to the next solution.

Fourth solution: Wipe the cache partition
Wiping the cache partition will delete the old system cache and replace it with a new one. This is a very important procedure as well because there are times when the cache gets corrupted and cause various performance-related issues. But don’t worry, none of your files and data will be deleted if you do this. Here’s how:
- Turn off the device.
- Press and hold the Volume Up and Power keys.
- When the Galaxy A10 logo shows, release all three keys.
- Your Galaxy A10 will continue to boot up into the Recovery Mode. Once you see a black screen with blue and yellow texts, proceed to the next step.
- Press the Volume down key several times to highlight wipe cache partition.
- Press Power key to select.
- Press the Volume down key to highlight yes, them and press the Power key to select.
- When the wipe cache partition is complete, Reboot system now is highlighted.
- Press the Power key to restart the device.
Once your phone has successfully rebooted, launch the app and see if the ‘Messages keeps stopping’ error still shows up. If it does, then the next procedure should fix it.
Fifth solution: Master reset your Galaxy A10
Here’s the thing, a reset will be able to fix almost all software-related issues and that includes app crashes like this one. However, make sure to create a copy of your important files and data because they will be deleted during the reset and you may not be able to retrieve them. After the backup, remove your google account so that you won’t be locked out. When ready, follow these steps to reset your phone:
- Turn off the device.
- Press and hold the Volume Up and Power keys.
- When the Galaxy A10 logo shows, release all three keys.
- Your Galaxy A10 will continue to boot up into the Recovery Mode. Once you see a black screen with blue and yellow texts, proceed to the next step.
- Press the Volume down key several times to highlight ‘wipe data / factory reset’.
- Press Power button to select.
- Press the Volume down key until ‘Yes’ is highlighted.
- Press Power button to select and start the master reset.
- When the master reset is complete, ‘Reboot system now’ is highlighted.
- Press the Power key to restart the device.
