How to flash Android 4.1.1 XXCLL2 Jelly Bean firmware on Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 P5100

Samsung recently released an Android 4.1.1 Jelly Bean XXCLL2 update for the international variant of Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 with model number P5100. The update was originally released for Smart Communications, Inc. customers in the Philippines that tied up with the South Korean manufacturer to exclusively offer the device in the country. Developers, however, discovered that the firmware can be flashed and compatible with Tab 2 10.1 devices in other regions including many countries Europe, the United Kingdom, Middle East, and other countries in the Southeast Asia.

Reminders

1. Backup all data in your tablet including your files, videos, SMS messages, contacts, settings, etc.
2. It is recommended you fully-charge your device. Otherwise, make sure it has at least 75% battery left.
3. Make sure your device is rooted before flashing.
4. Enable USB Debugging.
5. Download these files and extract them in your computer: Android 4.1.1 XXCLL2 and ODIN 3.07.

Step-by-step Tutorial

Step 1: Run ODIN as Administrator as you turn your device off.

Step 2: Now booth Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 into Download Mode: press and hold VOLUME UP and POWER buttons simultaneously until you see a warning message on the screen. Press VOLUME DOWN to confirm you want to enter the Download Mode.

Step 3: When you have successfully put your device to Download Mode, you need to connect it to your computer using the original USB data cable to begin flashing of the firmware. If connection is good, Odin will display message “Added” and one of ID:COM sections will turn yellow as Odin displays the COM port number your device is using to communicate with your computer.

Step 4: There are four buttons on Odin interface and you will need to choose correct files for each one of them. Click them one after the other and browse through the directory where you extracted contents of Android 4.1.1 XXCLL2 firmware to look for the files.

1. For PDA button, you should look for and choose .tar file or the one with “code” in the filename.
2. The Phone button must have a file with “modem” in its name.
3. CSC button for file with “csc” in the name.
4. And, .pit file for PIT button.

Note: In case the last three files couldn’t be found, you can continue with .tar file.

Step 5: In Options section on Odin interface, make sure options Auto Reboot and F. Reset Time are checked. If .pit file exists, also check Re-Partition option. Otherwise, only the first two are needed.

Step 6: Now click on START button on Odin to begin flashing. The entire process may take a few minutes to complete. Wait until Odin display “PASS” message on the upper-leftmost box.

Step 7: The tablet will be rebooted automatically and it may take a few minutes to become active but that’s normal. The next time it will boot, it would be just like before so don’t worry about it.

Boot Loop Workaround

In case your device enters boot loop, perform full data wipe in Recovery Mode: Wipe Data/Factory Reset => Yes. After this, you need to reboot your tablet.

To check if the flashing was successful, go to Settings => About Tablet. It should say the device runs on Android 4.1.1 with XXCLL2 build.
