How To Fix The Huawei P20 Pro Moisture Detected Error Issue

One error message that you might see on your device is the moisture detected error. This will usually occur when your phone gets wet and is a safety measure to protect the internal components of the device from getting damage due to a short circuit. You won’t be able to charge your phone once you see this error message on your phone screen. What you will want to do in this case is to make sure that the phone is dry. Wipe the exterior part with a dry cloth then use a hair dryer to remove any moisture present in the phone charging port. You can also let the moisture evaporate naturally by placing the phone in a cool dry place for a couple of hours. Once the phone is dry check if you are still getting the error message.

In case the issue persists or if it occurs even if the phone has not been in contact with water then proceed with the troubleshooting steps listed below.

Make sure your phone software is updated

It’s best to make sure that your phone is running on the latest software version first. If an update is available then I suggest that you download and install it first.

Perform a soft reset

There’s a possibility that the problem is just caused by a minor software glitch. If this is the case then a soft reset will fix this issue as it will refresh the phone software. You can do this easily by simply restarting the device.

  • Press and hold the Power and Volume down key for up to 45 seconds.
  • Wait as the device restarts.

Check if the issue still occurs.

Start the phone in Safe Mode

Sometimes an app you downloaded from the Google Play Store will cause the Huawei P20 Pro moisture detected error when it is installed. To check if an app you downloaded is causing the problem you will have to start the phone in Safe Mode as only the pre-installed apps are allowed to run in this mode.

  • Power off the phone by holding down the power button for a few seconds.
  • Press and hold the power button and release it when you see the Huawei logo on screen.
  • After releasing the Power key, immediately press and hold the Volume down key.
  • Keep holding the Volume key till the phone completely boots up.
  • Once the phone boots up,  “Safe mode” should be appeared on the bottom of the screen

In case the issue does not occur in this mode then it is most likely caused by an app you installed. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.

To find the specific app you will need to do a trial and error method. Start the phone normally, uninstall an app, then check if the issue still occurs. Repeat this step until the issue no longer occurs. The last app you uninstalled is most likely the culprit.

Wipe the cache partition of the phone

Your phone will usually store cached data or data that is constantly being used to speed up its operation. There are cases when his data which is stored in the dedicated partition of the phone can become corrupted. When this happens this will usually cause certain issues to occur on the phone. To eliminate the possibility that this is what’s causing the problem you will have to wipe the cache partition of the phone from the recovery mode.

  • Turn off your phone.
  • Press and hold Volume UP button along with Power button on your  device simultaneously for a few seconds
  • The phone will enter the stock recovery mode
  • Use volume buttons to highlight ‘wipe cache partition’ and use power key to select it
  • Reboot the system once the process is completed

Check if the issue still occurs.

Perform a factory reset

In case the above steps fails to fix the Huawei P20 Pro moisture detected error issue then there’s a possibility that this is caused by a system glitch. The best way to deal with this right now is to perform a factory reset. Make sure to backup your phone data before doing the reset.

  • Turn off your phone.
  • Press and hold Volume UP button along with Power button on your  device simultaneously for a few seconds
  • The phone will enter the stock recovery mode
  • Use volume buttons to highlight  select wipe cache/factory reset and use power key to select it
  • Reboot the system once the process is completed

Setup the phone then check if the issue still persists. If it does then this might already be caused by a faulty hardware component. The best thing to do right now is to bring the phone to a service center and have it checked.
