How To Fix The Huawei Mate 20 Black Screen of Death Issue

The Black Screen of Death issue is an issue that occurs on a phone whose display is not working properly. When this problem occurs, nothing can be seen on the phone screen as it is just black, hence the term. The device can still be getting notifications, calls, or text messages when this issue occurs or it might not be functioning at all.

If this happened after you dropped your phone or had your device in contact with water  then it’s very likely that this is caused by a damaged hardware component. If this is what’s causing the problem then you will need to have the phone repaired at a service center.

If this just happened randomly then there’s a possibility that it is caused by a software glitch. Listed below are the necessary troubleshooting steps that you need to do if this is a software related issue.

Fully charge the phone battery

The first thing that you will need to do is to make sure that the problem is not caused by a drained battery. To eliminate this possibility you will have to make sure that the battery is fully charged.

  • Clean the charging port of the phone using a can of compressed air making sure to remove any dirt or debris stuck in it.
  • Fully charge the phone with a charging cord and wall charger that have been tested to work on another device.
  • If the phone does not charge with a wall charger then try charging the device from a computer USB port.

Start the phone in Safe Mode

It’s possible that an app you downloaded from the Google Play Store can cause this particular issue. • Power off the phone by holding down the power button for a few seconds.
  • Press and hold the power button and release it when you see the Huawei logo on screen.

If the screen works in this mode then the problem could be caused by an app you downloaded. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.

Wipe the cache partition of the phone

There are cases when the cached data stored in the dedicated partition of the phone can become corrupted. When this happens this will usually cause certain issues to occur on the phone. To eliminate the possibility that this is what’s causing the problem you will have to wipe the cache partition of the phone from the recovery mode.

  • Turn off the device.
  • Press and hold the Volume Up button.
  • While holding the Volume Up button, connect USB charger to the phone.
