How To Fix Samsung Galaxy S9 Touchscreen Not Working After Getting Wet
Problem: Hello, Thank you for taking the time to read this. I have a Samsung Galaxy S9. My son decided that it needed to be cleaned so he put it under the running water. Anyways, I let it sit with the battery off, for a while, I even put it in rice for a few days. I had a back up phone so I wanted to take my time with this. It would charge, turn on, I would get text messages everything, but the touchscreen did not work. Even the security finger on the back was not working. I just paid the phone off and I decided to open it myself after watching a whole bunch of youtube videos, and I am pretty good with being delicate with things. I took the whole phone apart, there was no white marks or anything that looked to be a burn or water damage. Anyways I decided to fix it and I found a new screen with digitizer that I ordered online. I get the new screen with digitizer, and I go to test the new screen to see if it responds to my touch, and it does not. It turns on, everything looks good but there is not touch, nothing, not even fingerprint scanner again. The company I bought the screen from said I could send it to them to have them make sure it is not a defect in the screen. Before I do send it back, can if be the motherboard? Is there a way I can test the new screen to see if it is definitely bad? I took everything apart, I was careful with everything, all the screws, and hardware taking my time. I just don’t understand why the fingerprint scanner does not work, and the screen wont detect touch. Do you have any ideas before I send this part back. Thank you
Solution: It’s very likely that this is caused by a faulty hardware component in the motherboard of the device as the fingerprint scanner is also not working. The best thing you can do right now is to have the replacement display checked if it works. If it does then you will have to bring the phone to a service center so that an extensive diagnosis can be made to determine the exact component that is failing to work properly.
Listed below are the steps that you need to perform once your phone does not function properly after getting wet.
- Wipe the exterior part of the phone with a microfiber cloth until it is dry.
- Remove the SIM card and microSD card.
- Place the phone in a bag of rice or silica gel for at least 48 hours. This will absorb the moisture inside the phone.
- Charge the phone if necessary then check if the issue still occurs.
If the above steps fails to fix the problem then the phone has most likely suffered from water damage. The best thing to do right now is to bring the phone to a service center and have it checked.
