The S9 plus does not have accessible battery – how to soft reset? Better yet how can I reset the GPS? This seems to be the key. How to completely forget current location and re-acquire.

Solution: Before troubleshooting this issue it’s best to make sure that the phone is running on the latest software update. If a new update is available then I suggest that you install it in your phone.

Smart Lock is a feature of this phone that makes it easy to keep the data in the phone safe. With this feature enabled the phone can be set to automatically unlock itself by detecting several signals such as your proximity from a set location, your smartwatch , or your car bluetooth system.

Setup Smart Lock Trusted Places

The first troubleshooting step that you need to do in this particular case is to remove then setup the Smart Lock feature properly in your phone.

  • From the Home screen, swipe up or down to access the Apps screen.
  • Tap Settings.
  • Tap Lock screen and security.
  • Tap Smart Lock.
  • Enter your lock screen credentials.
  • Select the  Trusted places option then add a location where the phone will stay unlocked.

Check if the problem is caused by an app you downloaded

There are instances when an app you downloaded can be causing the problem. To check if this is the case you should start the phone in Safe Mode. When the phone is running in this mode only the pre-installed apps are allowed to run.

  • Press and hold the Power button until the Power off prompt appears then release.
  • Tap and hold Power off until the Safe mode prompt appears then release.
  • To confirm, tap Safe mode. This may take up to 30 seconds to complete.

If the problem does not occur in this mode then it could be caused by an app you downloaded. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.

Wipe the cache partition of the phone from the recovery mode

Sometimes your phone software will accumulate data which can get corrupt. When this data is present in the phone it could cause issues to occur on the device.To make sure that this is not what is causing the problem you should wipe the cache partition of the phone from the recovery mode.

  • Turn off the phone.
  • Press and hold the Volume Up key and the Bixby key, then press and hold the Power key.
  • When the Android logo displays, release all three keys.
  • An ‘Installing system update’ message will show for 30 – 60 seconds before the Android system recovery menu options appear.
  • Press the Volume down key several times to highlight wipe cache partition.
  • Press Power key to select.
  • Press the Volume down key to highlight yes, them and press the Power key to select.
  • When the wipe cache partition is complete, Reboot system now is highlighted.
  • Press the Power key to restart the device.

Backup your phone data then do a factory reset

One last troubleshooting step that you need to do is a factory reset. Since this will revert your phone back to its original factory condition then it is a must that you backup your phone data before performing this procedure.

  • Turn off the phone.
  • Press and hold the Volume Up key and the Bixby key, then press and hold the Power key.
  • When the green Android logo displays, release all keys (‘Installing system update’ will show for about 30 – 60 seconds before showing the Android system recovery menu options).
  • Press the Volume down key several times to highlight ‘wipe data / factory reset’.
  • Press Power button to select.
  • Press the Volume down key until ‘Yes — delete all user data’ is highlighted.
  • Press Power button to select and start the master reset.
  • When the master reset is complete, ‘Reboot system now’ is highlighted.
  • Press the Power key to restart the device.

Once you have performed the reset make sure to perform the additional troubleshooting steps listed below.

  • Make Sure GPS Is On
  • Make Sure Your Location Is Updated. To do this open Google Maps and tap the compass icon near the bottom-right corner. When the screen zooms over your current location (the blue dot in Google Maps), your phone will have an updated location report.
  • Disable Other Devices Under Google Location Reporting. Go to Settings then Google, then scroll down and select “Location.” From there, choose “Google Location History” (you may have to tap “Advanced” before you see this option), then make sure only your current device is enabled.
  • Detach Other Google Accounts on the Device
  • Make Sure Play Services Has Location Permission
  • Make Sure Play Services Can Modify System Settings
  • Make Sure Play Services Isn’t Battery Optimized
  • Delete Trusted Place & Add It Again
