How To Fix Samsung Galaxy S9+ Not Connecting To LTE After Software Update

Problem: Hi I just updated my Sprint Samsung S9+ and it wont connect to my sprint LTE or 4G or 3G at all I have restarted the phone power down and power back up and tried connecting to charger and disconnecting it. I cannot access the internet unless I am connected to Wifi. Please help.

Solution: Before performing any troubleshooting steps on this phone it’s best to make sure that it is running on the latest software version. If an update is available then I suggest that you download and install it first.

The first thing you will want to do in this case is to make sure that you have an active mobile data connection and that you are located in an area that has a strong mobile data connection. To eliminate the possibility of the problem caused by a weak signal you should try going to a different area then check if the issue still occurs.

You should also make sure that the phone has the correct APN settings set.

To access the APN settings.

  • From the Home screen, swipe up on an empty spot to open the Apps tray.
  • Tap Settings > Connections > Mobile networks > Access Point Names.
  • If available, tap the Sprint APN setting. If not available, tap ADD.

Your phone should have the following APN settings

  • Name: Sprint
  • APN: cinet.spcs
  • Proxy: blank
  • Username: blank
  • Password: blank
  • Server: Not set
  • MMSC: blank
  • MMS Proxy: 68.28.31.7
  • MMS Port: blank
  • MCC: 234
  • MNC: 15
  • Authentication type: not set
  • APN Type: default
  • APN protocol: IPv4

In case you are still unable to access the mobile data network then proceed with the additional troubleshooting steps listed below.

Perform a Soft Reset

This will usually fix issues caused by minor software glitches as it will refresh the phone software. This is also called as a simulated battery pull as it disconnects the phone from the battery.

  • Press and hold the Power and Volume down key for up to 45 seconds.
  • Wait as the device restarts.

Check if the issue still occur.

Check if the issue occurs  in Safe Mode

Another factor that can cause this problem is an app you downloaded to the device. To check if this is the case you will need to start the phone in Safe Mode since only the pre-installed apps are allowed to run in this mode.

  • Turn the phone off.
  • Press and hold the Power key past the model name screen appearing on the screen.
  • When SAMSUNG appears on the screen, release the Power key.
  • Immediately after releasing the Power key, press and hold the Volume down key.
  • Continue to hold the Volume down key until the device finishes restarting.
  • When Safe mode appears in the bottom left corner of the screen, release the Volume down key.

In case the issue does not occur in this mode then it’s likely that the problem is caused by an app you downloaded. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.

Wipe the cache partition of the phone

The phone system cached data is used to speed up the access to your phone apps. Sometimes this data can get corrupted which results in issues occurring on the device. To check if a corrupted cached data is causing the problem you will need to wipe the cache partition of the phone from the recovery mode.

  • Turn off the phone.
  • Press and hold the Volume Up key and the Bixby key, then press and hold the Power key.
  • When the Android logo displays, release all keys (‘Installing system update’ will show for about 30 – 60 seconds before showing the Android system recovery menu options).
  • Press the Volume down key to highlight “wipe cache partition.”
  • Press the Power key to select.
  • Press the Volume down key to highlight “yes” and press the Power key to select.
  • When the wipe cache partition is complete, “Reboot system now” is highlighted.
  • Press the Power key to restart the device.

Check if the problem still occurs.

Perform a factory reset

One last troubleshooting step you should consider is a factory reset. This will revert your phone back to its original factory condition. Take note that this will erase your phone data so make sure to create a backup copy before proceeding.

  • Turn off the phone.
  • Press and hold the Volume Up key and the Bixby key, then press and hold the Power key.
  • When the green Android logo displays, release all keys (‘Installing system update’ will show for about 30 – 60 seconds before showing the Android system recovery menu options).
  • Press the Volume down key several times to highlight ‘wipe data / factory reset’.
  • Press Power button to select.
  • Press the Volume down key until ‘Yes — delete all user data’ is highlighted.
  • Press Power button to select and start the master reset.
  • When the master reset is complete, ‘Reboot system now’ is highlighted.
  • Press the Power key to restart the device.

After the reset you should make sure that the phone has the correct APN settings before you will be able to access the mobile data network.
