How To Fix Samsung Galaxy S8 Cannot Read Contacts And Calendar After Software Update

Software updates are constantly being released to mobile devices to improve their overall user experience and to make them more secure. One factor that can cause the phone not to read the contacts and calendar to occur  after an update is because of a software glitch. To fix this you should follow the steps listed below.

Restart the phone

The first thing you will need to do in this case is to restart your phone as this will refresh the phone software.

  • Press and hold the power button for at least 45 seconds.
  • Wait for your phone to restart then check if the issue occurs.

Sync your account

With the new software update installed the phone might not have synced your contacts and calendar data yet. You should try manually synching your phone by following the steps listed below. Take note that this will only work if you have a backup data for your contacts and calendar stored in the cloud.

  • From the home screen swipe up or down to open the App tray.
  • Tap Settings then Cloud and Accounts.
  • Tap the desire account under Accounts.
  • Tap the three dots icon then tap on sync all.

You can also sync selected apps and accounts by following the steps listed below.

  • Tap your account
  • Uncheck any boxes that you do not want to sync.
  • When finished tap the More icon.
  • Tap sync now.

Check if the problem occurs in Safe Mode

There are instances when an app you downloaded can cause this particular problem. To check if this is the case you will have to start the phone in Safe Mode as only the pre-installed apps are allowed to run in this mode.

  • Make sure that the device is off.
  • Press and hold the Power key past the screen with the device name.
  • When ‘SAMSUNG’ appears on the screen, release the Power key.
  • Immediately after releasing the Power key, press and hold the Volume down key.
  • Continue to hold the Volume down key until the device finishes restarting.
  • Safe mode will display in the bottom left corner of the screen.
  • Release the Volume down key when you see ‘Safe Mode’.

If the problem does not occur in this mode then it could be caused by an app you downloaded. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.

Wipe the cache partition of the phone

The phone system cached data is used to speed up the access to your phone apps. Sometimes this data can get corrupted which results in issues occuring on the device. To check if a corrupted cached data is causing the problem you will need to wipe the cache partition of the phone from the recovery mode.

  • Turn off the phone.
  • Press and hold the Volume Up key and the Bixby key, then press and hold the Power key.

Check if the issue still occurs.

Perform a factory reset

One last troubleshooting step you should consider if you are still experiencing the same issue is a factory reset. This will revert your phone back to its original factory condition. Take note that this procedure will erase your phone data som make sure to have a backup copy before proceeding.

  • Turn off the phone.
  • Press and hold the Volume Up key and the Bixby key, then press and hold the Power key.
  • When the device logo screen displays, release only the Power key
