How To Fix Samsung Galaxy J6 Not Sending Text Message Unless Phone Is Rebooted

Problem: My J6 will receive text messages, but it won’t send text messages unless I reboot my phone, then it will send texts for about 30 min before I have to repeat the process again. It did it with the original app, so the guy at the store told me to download a messaging app because “that app sucks.” So I tried using One Message, I believe it was called, and had the same problem. So I just barely downloaded a new app that came highly recommended. I can’t remember the name of it right now, but it has the exact same issue. And of course, T Mobile just wants me to buy a new phone instead of fixing the problem. However, I cannot afford a new phone.

Solution: If your phone is not sending a text message and the issue temporarily gets fixed after a reboot then there’s a possibility that this could be caused by a software glitch. To fix this issue you should perform the troubleshooting steps listed below.

Check if the issue occurs when you are in a different location

There’s a possibility that you could be in an area that has a weak network signal. When the phone is having a hard time getting a good signal then certain services will suffer such as the ability to send or receive a text message. To check if the problem is caused by a weak network signal try going to a different location where the phone can get a full signal then check if the issue still occurs.

Start the phone in Safe Mode

Certain apps that you download can cause issues on the device. You might have recently downloaded that is causing this problem. To check if this is what’s causing the problem you should start the phone in Safe Mode. When the phone operate in this mode only the pre-installed apps are allowed to run making it easier to pinpoint if a third party app is causing the problem.

  • If the device is on hold down the Power key for a few seconds.
  • Choose “Power off” until “Restart in safe mode” pops up.
  • Select “OK” and wait for about 4 seconds.
  • Your device is now running in Safe mode.

If the issue does not occur in this mode then it could be caused by an app you downloaded. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.

Wipe the cache partition of the J6

There’s a possibility that a corrupt temporary system data can cause this particular problem. If this is the case then you will need to wipe the cache partition of the phone.

  • Turn off the phone.
  • Press and hold the Volume Up key and the Home key, then press and hold the Power key.
  • When the device logo screen displays, release only the Power key
  • When the Android logo displays, release all keys (‘Installing system update’ will show for about 30 – 60 seconds before showing the Android system recovery menu options).
  • Press the Volume down key several times key to highlight ‘wipe cache partition.’
  • Press the Power key to select.
  • Press the Volume down key to highlight ‘yes’ and press the Power key to select.
  • When the wipe cache partition is complete, ‘Reboot system now’ is highlighted.
  • Press the Power key to restart the device.

Perform a factory reset

As a final troubleshooting step you will have to do a factory reset. This will revert your phone back to its original factory condition. Take note that this will erase your phone data so make sure to have a backup copy before proceeding with this step.

  • Go to “Settings”
  • Go to “Personal”
  • Tap “Backup and reset”
  • Optionally, turn “Back up my data” and “Restore” ON or OFF
  • Tap “Factory data reset” > “Reset device”
  • If your phone is protected by a lock screen, enter your PIN/password and tap “Continue”
  • Tap “Delete all” > “Reset device”

If the above steps fails to fix the problem then this could already be caused by a faulty hardware component. The best thing to do right now is to bring the phone to a service center and have it checked.
