How To Fix Samsung Galaxy J6 Battery Drains Fast

Problem: I have bought a Galaxy J6 of days ago. After using it i noticed that battery is behaving abnormally.I charged it to 100%.Than started draining it.I saw that battery drains from 100% to approx 50% at normal rate.Than from 50% to 35% it drained very fastly, than it dropped from 35% to 20% instantly than from 20% to 0% very very rapidly.I calibrate my battery.I drained it completely than charged it to 100%.Now it started draining at faster rate from 100% to 0% equally. It drains 1% in 2 minutes using Facebook on LTE on full brightness with all other things disabled. Is it normal rate? If not then plz suggest me some solution.I have tested battery in safe mode but result is same.

Solution: Before performing any troubleshooting steps on this phone its best to make sure that it is running on the latest software version. If an update is available then I suggest that you download and install it first.

Perform a soft reset
The phone will usually drain its battery quickly if there are a lot of services running. The first thing to do in this case is to refresh the phone software by doing a soft reset.

  • Hold the Power button for 3-5 seconds.
  • Tap Power off.
  • When the device has shut down completely, wait approximately one minute. This will help make sure that the cache and temporary files are wiped from the device.
  • Turn on the phone then check if the issue still occurs.

Check if the problem occurs in Safe Mode

The next thing to do is to check if an app you downloaded is causing the problem. There are instances when an app is not optimized properly to run on your phone which makes it use up more battery life. To check if an app is causing this problem is to start the phone in Safe Mode as only the pre-installed apps are allowed to run in this mode.

  • Turn the device off.
  • Press and hold the Power key past the screen with the device name.
  • When ‘SAMSUNG’ appears on the screen, release the Power key.
  • Immediately after releasing the Power key, press and hold the Volume down key.
  • Continue to hold the Volume down key until the device finishes restarting.
  • Safe mode will display in the bottom left corner of the screen.
  • Release the Volume down key when you see ‘Safe Mode’.

If the battery drain issue does not occur in this mode then the problem could be caused by one of the apps you downloaded. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.

Wipe the cache partition of the phone

Your device will store cached data of apps in a dedicated partition in its internal storage. This data helps apps open faster making for a better mobile experience. There are however instances when this cached data can become corrupted and can cause issues with the device. To check if this is what’s causing the problem you should wipe the cache partition of the phone.

  • Turn off the phone.
  • Press and hold the Volume Up key and the Home key, then press and hold the Power key.
  • When the device logo screen displays, release only the Power key.
  • When the Android logo displays, release all keys (‘Installing system update’ will show for about 30 – 60 seconds before showing the Android system recovery menu options).
  • Press the Volume down key several times key to highlight ‘wipe cache partition’.
  • Press the Power key to select.
  • Press the Volume down key to highlight ‘yes’ and press the Power key to select.
  • When the wipe cache partition is complete, ‘Reboot system now’ is highlighted.
  • Press the Power key to restart the device.

Check if the issue still occurs.

Calibrate the battery

One way to fix this particular problem is to calibrate the phone battery.

  • Discharge your phone fully until it turns itself off.
  • Turn it on again and let it turn off.
  • Plug your phone into a charger and, without turning it on, let it charge until the on-screen or LED indicator says 100 percent.
  • Unplug your charger.
  • Turn your phone on. The battery indicator will likely not say 100 percent, so plug it in (leave your phone on for this) and continue charging until it says 100 percent on-screen as well.
  • Unplug your phone and restart it. Make sure it displays 100 percent. If not, plug the charger back in until it shows 100 percent on screen.
  • Repeat this cycle until it says 100 percent
  • Let your battery discharge all the way down to 0 percent and let your phone turn off again.
  • Fully charge the battery one more time without interruption, and you should have reset the Android system battery percentage.

Check if the issue still occurs.

Perform a factory reset

The last troubleshooting step you will have to do if the above steps fails to fix the problem is a factory reset. This will revert the phone back to its original factory condition. Make sure to backup your phone data before doing this step.

  • Make sure that the phone is off.
  • Press and hold the Volume Up key and the Home key, then press and hold the Power key.
  • When the device logo screen displays, release only the Power key
  • When the Android logo displays, release all keys (‘Installing system update’ will show for about 30 – 60 seconds before showing the Android system recovery menu options).
  • Press the Volume down key several times key to highlight ‘wipe data / factory reset.’
  • Press Power button to select.
  • Press the Volume down key until ‘Yes — delete all user data’ is highlighted.
  • Press Power button to select and start the master reset.
  • When the master reset is complete, ‘Reboot system now’ is highlighted.
  • Press the Power key to restart the device.
  • Once the phone has fully started do not install any apps in your phone yet. Try to check first if the battery drains quickly.

If the above steps fails to fix the problem then this is most likely caused by a faulty hardware component, possibly by an issue with the battery. You will need to bring the phone to a service center and have it checked if this is the case.
