How to fix Samsung Galaxy A8 2019 with Black Screen of Death (easy steps)

The Black Screen of Death is one of the most common problems many Android users have encountered. Even a smartphone with really good hardware specs like the Samsung Galaxy A8 2018 may be able to experience this issue sooner or later. Its severity depends on how the problem occurs. For instance, if the phone was dropped on a hard surface and then this problem started, then it’s most likely due to physical damage. If it was submerged in water for a long time, then it should be liquid damage.

The thing is that it is very important to determine what caused the problem. However, if it started without apparent reason, it’s more likely a firmware-related issue. With that said, you can fix it without any help from someone or technician. In this post, I will share with you the solution that we’ve always been using to address this kind of problem. If you’re one of the owners of this phone and are currently bugged by a similar issue, continue reading as this article may be able to help you one way or another.

As long as your Galaxy A8 hasn’t been dropped, no signs of physical whatsoever, or submerged in water for a long time, then this problem is pretty easy to fix. I will share with you the solution that always works and I hope it will work with you, too.

Perform Forced Restart

The forced restart procedure is equivalent to battery pull that we often do to phones with removable batteries to address crashes and similar issues. This might be the only thing you should do to make your Galaxy A8 2018 turn on again. To do this, press and hold the volume down and power keys simultaneously for 10 seconds or more.

Phones like this with non-removable batteries are hard-wired to simulate battery disconnect when the correct combination of keys is done. If your phone doesn’t respond to this, try doing it a couple more times but if still not, try this…

  1. Press and hold the volume down button and don’t release it yet.
  2. While holding down the volume down button, press and hold the Power key as well.
  3. Keep both keys held down for 10 seconds or more.

It’s basically the same as the first procedure only that we’re making sure you press and hold the volume down button before pressing and holding the power key because doing otherwise won’t give you the same result. If your phone is still not responding to this, then try doing the next solution.

Alternative Solution

It’s possible that the battery has been drained completely that’s why the phone won’t turn on. Now, here’s the thing, during the time when the battery was draining, it could have been that the system crashed. In this case, here’s what you should do:

  1. Plug the charger to a working AC charger.
  2. Using the original cable, connect your phone to its charger.
  3. Regardless whether it responds or not, leave the phone connected to the charger for at least 10 minutes.
  4. Press and hold the volume down button and don’t release it yet.
  5. While holding down the volume down button, press and hold the Power key as well.
  6. Keep both keys held down for 10 seconds or more.

The first solution alone is more than enough to fix this problem provided it’s a minor issue with either the firmware or hardware. However, if both of these solutions don’t work for you, the problem could be more than what you think. So, it’s better to bring it to the shop and have Samsung’s technician check the device for you. That’s the safest and most logical thing to do now especially that your phone is still under warranty.
