How To Fix Samsung Galaxy A6 Battery Drains Fast
Problem: My phone battery tends to discharge at a rate of between 1-3% per minute while active when using something such as the internet, sometimes a bit faster when playing a game. On frequent occasions my phone battery will be around the 80-90% charge and when I open a game the phone will randomly restart and suddenly have only between 9-20% charge. On two occasions I have had the phone on a low charge of about 40%, I have started to charge and then decided to charge faster I will turn my phone off. As soon as I turn it off and the screen shows the turned off animation for charging, the % is suddenly 90% and stays that way when I turn it back on.
Solution: Before performing any troubleshooting steps on this phone its best to make sure that it is running on the latest software version. If an update is available then I suggest that you download and install it first.
Your phone will usually drain its battery quickly if there are a lot of services running. The first thing to do in this case is to refresh the phone software by doing a soft reset.
- Hold the Power button for 3-5 seconds.
- Tap Power off.
- When the device has shut down completely, wait approximately one minute. This will help make sure that the cache and temporary files are wiped from the device.
Check if the problem occurs in Safe Mode
The next thing to do is to check if an app you downloaded is causing the problem. There are instances when an app is not optimized properly to run on your phone which makes it use up more battery life. To check if an app is causing this problem is to start the phone in Safe Mode as only the pre-installed apps are allowed to run in this mode.
- Turn the device off.
- Press and hold the Power key past the screen with the device name.
- When ‘SAMSUNG’ appears on the screen, release the Power key.
- Immediately after releasing the Power key, press and hold the Volume down key.
- Continue to hold the Volume down key until the device finishes restarting.
- Safe mode will display in the bottom left corner of the screen.
- Release the Volume down key when you see ‘Safe Mode’.
If the battery drain issue does not occur in this mode then the problem could be caused by one of the apps you downloaded. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.
Wipe the cache partition of the phone
Your device will store cached data of apps in a dedicated partition in its internal storage. This data helps apps open faster making for a better mobile experience. There are however instances when this cached data can become corrupted and can cause issues with the device. To check if this is what’s causing the problem you should wipe the cache partition of the phone.
- Turn off the phone.
- Press and hold the Volume Up key and the Home key, then press and hold the Power key.
- When the device logo screen displays, release only the Power key.
- When the Android logo displays, release all keys (‘Installing system update’ will show for about 30 – 60 seconds before showing the Android system recovery menu options).
- Press the Volume down key several times key to highlight ‘wipe cache partition’.
- Press the Power key to select.
- Press the Volume down key to highlight ‘yes’ and press the Power key to select.
- When the wipe cache partition is complete, ‘Reboot system now’ is highlighted.
- Press the Power key to restart the device.
Perform a factory reset
The last troubleshooting step you will have to do if the above steps fails to fix the problem is a factory reset. This will revert the phone back to its original factory condition. Make sure to backup your phone data before doing this step.
- Make sure that the phone is off.
- Press and hold the Volume Up key and the Home key, then press and hold the Power key.
- When the device logo screen displays, release only the Power key
- When the Android logo displays, release all keys (‘Installing system update’ will show for about 30 – 60 seconds before showing the Android system recovery menu options).
- Press the Volume down key several times key to highlight ‘wipe data / factory reset.’
- Press Power button to select.
- Press the Volume down key until ‘Yes — delete all user data’ is highlighted.
- Press Power button to select and start the master reset.
- When the master reset is complete, ‘Reboot system now’ is highlighted.
- Press the Power key to restart the device.
- Once the phone has fully started do not install any apps in your phone yet. Try to check first if the battery drains quickly.
If the above steps fails to fix the problem then this is most likely caused by a faulty hardware component, possibly by an issue with the battery. You will need to bring the phone to a service center and have it checked if this is the case.
