How To Fix Samsung Galaxy A6 Apps Keep Randomly Crashing
Problem: Hi; I have an Samsung Galaxy A6 that I bought in June 2018. Several months later and I am having issues with it locking up and the battery draining very quickly after the last pushed software update from my vendor. I have installed very few apps and have not altered the phone in huge ways, however, within the last week..it began crashing random apps and today locked up as it opened multiple apps in the background. I cannot use the CLOSE APPS button, can’t get to Settings to review Apps and am basically stuck. I did do a simulated “hard boot” as was suggested on your intro page by holding down the Volume Down and Power Key for several seconds. This released it long enough for me to see the Home Screen before it began filling up with apps again. Right back to square one….Am I destined to do a reset back to the Factory Settings? Is there any other options to kill the apps running?
Solution: Before troubleshooting this issue it’s best to make sure that the phone is running on the latest software version. If an update is available then I suggest that you download and install it first.
Since this problem is most likely caused by a software glitch we will be doing the necessary software related troubleshooting steps.
Perform a soft reset
The first thing you will need to do is to reboot the device. This will refresh the phone software and will usually fix this type of problem.
- Hold the Power button for 3-5 seconds.
- Tap Power off.
- Tap Power off.
- When the device has shut down completely, wait approximately one minute. This will help make sure that the cache and temporary files are wiped from the device.
- Press and hold the Power button to switch it back on.
Check if the problem occurs in Safe Mode
The next thing to do is to check if an app you downloaded is causing the problem.. This can be done by starting the phone in Safe Mode as only the pre-installed apps are allowed to run in this mode.
- Turn the device off.
- Press and hold the Power key past the screen with the device name.
- When ‘SAMSUNG’ appears on the screen, release the Power key.
- Immediately after releasing the Power key, press and hold the Volume down key.
- Continue to hold the Volume down key until the device finishes restarting.
- Safe mode will display in the bottom left corner of the screen.
- Release the Volume down key when you see ‘Safe Mode’.
If your apps do not randomly crash in this mode then the problem could be caused by one of the apps you downloaded. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.
Wipe the cache partition of the phone
Your device will store cached data of apps in a dedicated partition in its internal storage. This data helps apps open faster making for a better mobile experience. There are however instances when this cached data can become corrupted and can cause issues with the device. To check if this is what’s causing the problem you should wipe the cache partition of the phone.
- Turn off the phone.
- Press and hold the Volume Up key and the Home key, then press and hold the Power key.
- When the device logo screen displays, release only the Power key.
- When the Android logo displays, release all keys (‘Installing system update’ will show for about 30 – 60 seconds before showing the Android system recovery menu options).
- Press the Volume down key several times key to highlight ‘wipe cache partition’.
- Press the Power key to select.
- Press the Volume down key to highlight ‘yes’ and press the Power key to select.
- When the wipe cache partition is complete, ‘Reboot system now’ is highlighted.
- Press the Power key to restart the device.
Perform a factory reset
The last troubleshooting step you will have to do if the above steps fails to fix the problem is a factory reset. This will revert the phone back to its original factory condition. Make sure to backup your phone data before doing this step.
- Make sure that the phone is off.
- Press and hold the Volume Up key and the Home key, then press and hold the Power key.
- When the device logo screen displays, release only the Power key
- When the Android logo displays, release all keys (‘Installing system update’ will show for about 30 – 60 seconds before showing the Android system recovery menu options).
- Press the Volume down key several times key to highlight ‘wipe data / factory reset.’
- Press Power button to select.
- Press the Volume down key until ‘Yes — delete all user data’ is highlighted.
- Press Power button to select and start the master reset.
- When the master reset is complete, ‘Reboot system now’ is highlighted.
- Press the Power key to restart the device.
If the above steps fails to fix the problem then this is most likely caused by a faulty hardware component. You will need to bring the phone to a service center and have it checked if this is the case.
