How to fix Play Store error 501 on Samsung Galaxy Note 9
The error message “App name can’t be installed. Try again, and if the problem continues, get help troubleshooting. (Error code: -501)” often occurs during the downloading and installation of any app. Usually, this problem arises if you’re Galaxy Note 9 is using a custom ROM or it has been rooted recently. Troubleshooting Play Store 501 on Samsung Galaxy Note 9
The purpose of doing these troubleshooting procedures is to determine the real issue why the Play Store error 501 occurs on your phone. Here are the procedures that you should do:
First Solution: Perform Soft Reset
Since your Galaxy Note 9 doesn’t have a removable battery all you need to do is to perform the so-called soft reset. This has the same effect with the battery pull procedure that refreshes phone’s memory and reloads all apps services. Here’s how to do it:
- Press and hold Volume Down button and don’t release it.
- While holding down the volume button, press and hold the Power key as well.
- Keep both keys held down together for 10 seconds or more and wait until the device restarts.

Second Solution: Reset Play Store App
Doing this procedure will bring your Play Store app back to its factory default by deleting its cache and data so that newer ones will be created. After you do the procedure wait for a while the device is rebuilding new caches.
- Open Settings app.
- Tap Apps.
- Tap on More settings at the upper right (three-dot icon).
- Select Show system apps.
- Find and tap Google Play Store.
- Tap Storage.
- Tap Clear Data button.
- Restart your phone and check for the problem.
Once your phone has successfully rebooted, open Play Store and download an app to test if the error 501 still shows up and if it does, it could be an account issue. So, move on to the next solution.
Third Solution: Remove Google Account and Add it back again
Another factor to consider as to why this error occurs on your device is due to syncing problem. Even though there is no assurance if the problem will be fixed after removing your Google account, there were reports saying that the method is effective and resolved the issue.
When you already removed your Google account restart your Galaxy Note 9 and Add it again and see if the error message will pop up. If so, proceed to the next method.

Fourth Solution: Perform Factory Reset
The last resort that you can do on your phone is to perform factory reset. This will fix any software-related issues and bugs that might causing the error message to occur. But remember, if you do a reset on your Galaxy Note 9 all your files and data will be wiped out. So, before you reset you do the procedure be sure to transfer all your files and data to your SD card or Personal computer.

- Press and hold the Volume Up key and the Bixby key, then press and hold the Power key.
- When the green Android logo displays, release all keys (‘Installing system update’ will show for about 30 – 60 seconds before showing the Android system recovery menu options).
- Press the Volume down key several times to highlight ‘wipe data / factory reset’.
- Press Power button to select.
- Press the Volume down key until ‘Yes — delete all user data’ is highlighted.
- Press Power button to select and start the master reset.
- When the master reset is complete, ‘Reboot system now’ is highlighted.
- Press the Power key to restart the device.
