How to troubleshoot Mate 10 Pro with Messenger that keeps crashing
Before troubleshooting, check and make sure your phone has strong and stable Internet connection. Messenger is a server-based app, which therefore requires stable and strong Internet connection to communicate properly with the Facebook server. If your phone is having any sort of network connectivity issues from intermittent connection to no Internet connection at all, then that’s what you need to deal with first. Once you fixed your Internet connection, online apps including Messenger will be up and running smoothly again. Otherwise, continue to troubleshoot app problems on your Huawei Mate 10 Pro that may have caused Messenger to go rogue. Here are a few simple workarounds for you to refer to when needed.
First solution: Force stop Messenger app then restart.
For first instances, it’s likely that the app is just glitching. In this case, the problem could be just among other random issues transpiring on any applications. To clear this out, forcing the app to stop is recommended. Here’s how to force stop Messenger on your Huawei Mate 10 Pro:
- Tap the Recent Apps button from the main screen.
- Select the Active apps icon.
- Tap End next to the Messenger app.
- To quit all background apps simultaneously, tap End all.
- Then tap OK to confirm.
After ending the app, reboot your phone to dump cache and refresh the internal memory. Here’s how:
- Press the Power button for a few seconds or until the menu options appear.
- Select Power off option and then tap OK. Doing so will shut down your phone.
- After 30 seconds, press the Power button again until your device restarts.
Allow your device to finish booting up and then relaunch Messenger to see if the problem is fixed. If not, then continue to troubleshoot and try the next workaround.
Second solution: Clear app cache and data on Messenger.
Corrupted cache or temporary data stored on the Messenger app’s memory can also trigger the app to become unstable. While cached files are essential when it comes to information reloading speed, they can also cause trouble especially when they crashed or become corrupted. This is why it’s recommended to clear app cache and data regularly. If you haven’t done so yet, then follow these steps to clear cache and data on Messenger:
- Go to the Main Menu.
- Tap Settings.
- Select Application manager.
- Select the All tab.
- Select Messenger from the list of apps.
- Tap the option to Clear Cache or Clear Data.
- Select the Clear Cache option to clear cache without erasing saved data on the app.
- Select the Clear Data option to delete all saved temporary information on the camera app. This is usually needed if corrupted camera app data are to blame.
- If prompted, read and review the warning then tap OK to confirm action.
You may have to re-enter your login credentials to sign into Messenger again, if you cleared data from the Messenger app.
Third solution: Update Messenger app (if available).
App updates can also help clear errors from an application. Aside from adding new features, app updates also offer fix patches to get rid of any bugs that may be afflicting trouble on the app. To manually check for pending app updates on your Huawei Mate 10 Pro, follow these steps:
- Open the Google Play Store app.
- Tap the Menu icon (three vertical lines) then tap My apps & games.
- Navigate to the Updates section to view available app updates.
- Tap the Update button next to the Messenger app to install pending update for the application.
- To update all apps at once, tap the Update All button instead. You can select this option if multiple pending app updates are available.
After updating apps, reboot your phone to ensure all new app changes are properly implemented. Then test to see if Messenger is already working fine.
Fourth solution: Reinstall Messenger app on your phone.
Among the last possible solutions to try on is app deletion and reinstallation. This is often needed when the app has become totally corrupted and no longer able to work. Here’s what you should do then:
- Tap Settings from the Home screen.
- Tap Apps & notifications then App info.
- Select Messenger app.
- Tap Uninstall then select OK to confirm.
If the problem started after updating the Messenger app, you can try to Uninstall updates first and then tap OK. Doing so will restore the previous version of the application before it went rogue.
Fifth solution: Wipe cache partition.
Wiping cache partition on the phone can also be the key to resolving the issue if corrupted cache from the phone’s system folders are to blame. Like individual applications, the phone system also stores cache or temporary files in its cache partition for the same purpose or faster reloading of the same information. And these files can also become corrupted at some point. Should this happens, adverse symptoms will likely instigate including errant apps. To make sure this isn’t causing Messenger to misbehave, try wiping the cache partition of your Huawei Mate 10 Pro with these steps:
- Turn off your phone.
- Press and hold the Power button and the Volume Up button simultaneously for a few seconds.
- When you see the Huawei logo, release both buttons. You will then be routed to the EMUI or Android Recovery menu with three options to choose from.
- Press the Volume Down button to scroll to and highlight Wipe cache partition from the given options.
- Then press the Power button to confirm selection.
- Wait until your device is done wiping the cache partition and once it’s done, the Reboot system now option will be highlighted.
- Press the Power button to confirm and reboot your phone.
Wiping cache partition does not affect saved data on the internal memory for as long as done correctly. Even so, it’s still safe to back up all your important files beforehand.
