In this latest installment of our troubleshooting series we will tackle the LG V40 ThinQ not connecting to Wi-Fi issue.

How To Fix LG V40 ThinQ Not Connecting To Wi-Fi

Problem: HI.  I recently bought an LG V40 ThinQ.  However it is proving to be next to useless.  It wont connect to my home wifi, or any other wifi so i’m not able to use the internet.  My data charges have rocketed due to this. I have to keep my mobile data switched off most of the time now to prevent this.  Now i can’t even send texts either after a month of having the phone. So now it’s just an expensive camera. I’ve heard from a friend that there is an issue with this model of phone with the wifi connection.  Is this true and is there a fix.

Solution: Before troubleshooting this problem the first thing you should do is to make sure that the phone is running on the latest software update. Connect your phone to a computer with the LG PC Suite running and update your phone using this software. Once the phone is running no the latest software update proceed with the troubleshooting steps listed below.

Delete and forget the Wi-Fi networks saved in your phone

The first thing that you need to do is to remove any saved Wi-Fi network.

  • From the Home screen, tap Settings.
  • Tap the ‘Networks’ tab.
  • Tap the Wi-Fi switch to turn on.
  • Tap Wi-Fi.
  • Touch and hold the Wi-Fi network you want to delete.
  • Tap Forget network

Scan and connect to a Wi-Fi network

Once there are no more Wi-Fi networks saved in the phone then it’s time to connect to your home Wi-Fi network.

  • From the Home screen, tap Settings.
  • Tap the ‘Networks’ tab.
  • Tap the Wi-Fi switch to turn on.
  • Tap Wi-Fi.
  • Select the Wi-Fi network.
  • If prompted, enter the password.

In case you are still not able to connect to the Wi-Fi network then proceed with the additional troubleshooting steps listed below.

Check if the issue occurs in Safe Mode

Try to check if an app you downloaded is causing the problem by starting the phone in Safe Mode. When the phone is started in this mode only the pre-installed apps are allowed to run making it easier to determine if a third party app is the culprit.

  • With the screen on, press and hold the Power key.
  • In the options menu that displays, press and hold Power off.
  • When prompted to restart in Safe Mode, tap OK.
  • After your device restarts, it displays Safe mode at the bottom of the screen.

If you are able to connect to a Wi-Fi network with the phone running in this mode then you should find out what app is causing the problem and uninstall it.

Reset the network settings

This will reset all data connections back to its default factory condition.

  • From the Home screen, Settings.
  • Tap the ‘General’ tab.
  • Tap Restart & reset > Network settings reset > RESET SETTINGS > Reset Settings.
  • A ‘Network settings have been reset’ message briefly flashes to indicate the reset is complete.

Perform a factory reset

One last troubleshooting step to consider is a factory reset. This will revert the phone back to its original factory condition. Make sure to backup your phone data before performing this step as it will be deleted in the process.

  • Turn off the device.
  • Press and hold the Power and Volume down buttons.
  • When the LG logo appears, quickly release and then re-hold the Power button while continuing to hold the Volume down button.
  • When the ‘Delete all user data (including LG and carrier apps) and reset all settings’ message appears, use the Volume down button to highlight Yes.
  • Press the Power button to reset the device.

If the above steps fails to fix the problem then this is most likely caused by a faulty hardware component already. The best thing to do right now is to bring the phone to a service center and have it checked.
