How To Fix LG V40 ThinQ Does Not Fast Charge
Problem: I have a LG V40 ThinQ which I obtained from ATT. My phone is charging extremely slow with the included charger. I cannot find the optimal device specific replacement wall charger so I have been using generic micro chargers. The chargers I buy from Amazon or Walmart work then they either quit working (no charging) or do what I’m having now, extremely slow charging. I live in Knoxville TN & there is only a few repair places and they are expensive.I don’t have anyone to help. I don’t have a computer.. It’s taking over 18 hours to get 90+-% charge while the phone is off. I am worried I will lose photographs if I perform certain troubleshooting acts. Please help me out. How do I know if its the battery? Do I send the phone to ATT? I can’t even find a real charger. I could really use your help. Thanks. I am praying you respond.
Solution: Before troubleshooting this particular issue it is best to make sure that your phone is running on the latest software version. If an update is available then I suggest that you download and install it in your phone first. Once the phone is running on the latest software version it’s time to do some troubleshooting.
This particular model has a 3300 mAh battery and with its Quick Charge 3.0 technology it can have 50% battery charge from a drained state in 36 minutes. If your phone is charging slowly then do the steps listed below.
Clean the phone charging port
When dirt or debris gets stuck in the phone charging port this can cause interference issues with the charging cord. Your phone may not charge or it might charge at a longer amount of time. To eliminate this factor you should clean the charging port of the phone using a can of compressed air.
Try using a different USB charging cord
The USB charging cord that you use to charge your phone usually gets damaged easily. This is due to the fact that it is constantly coiled or bent which causes the wires inside to be cut. Try using a different charging cord then check if the issue still persists.
Try using a different Quick Charge 3.0 charger
There are instances when the problem is caused by the wall charger itself not working properly. To check if this is the case you should try to replace this with a different charger with a Quick charge 3.0 technology.
Perform a factory reset on the LG V40 ThinQ
One last troubleshooting step to consider is a factory reset. This will revert your phone back to its original factory condition and will usually fix the problem if in case it is caused by a software glitch. Make sure to backup your phone data before doing the reset.
- Back up data on the internal memory before performing a factory reset.
- From the Home screen, Settings.
- Tap the ‘General’ tab.
- Tap Restart & reset.
- Tap Factory data reset.
- If desired, tap the Erase SD card checkbox.
- Tap RESET PHONE – Delete all – RESET
You can also perform the factory reset using the hardware keys.
- Backup all data on the internal memory before performing a master reset.
- Turn off the device.
- Press and hold the Power and Volume down buttons.
- When the LG logo appears, quickly release and then re-hold the Power button while continuing to hold the Volume down button.
- When the ‘Delete all user data (including LG and carrier apps) and reset all settings’ message appears, use the Volume down button to highlight Yes.
- Press the Power button to reset the device
If the above steps fails to fix the problem then you should consider bringing the phone back to AT&T and have it repaired or replaced.
