How To Fix Huawei P20 Pro Only Charges At A Specific Position

Problem: I have troubles with charging my Huawei P20 Pro . It only charges in a very specific position on its left side. I’ve now tried two different cables and chargers and nothing works. I feel like the problem is in my phone rather than on the chargers. I have dropped my phone but it was already 2 months ago. Nothing happened recently and as far as I know it hasn’t suffered any recent hits. I have done everything on your list and can’t find any visible damage near the charging area. Do you know of this problem is part of warranty if nothing else helps, I still have it left…

Solution: Before proceeding with the troubleshooting steps it is recommended that your phone should be checked if it is running on the latest software version. If an update is available then I suggest that you download and install it in your phone. Once this is done proceed with the troubleshooting steps listed below.

Clean the charging port of the phone

Sometimes dirt or debris stuck in the phone charging port can cause charging problems. To eliminate this possibility you should use a can of compressed air to remove any foreign matter that could be present in this port.

Use a different charging cord

The charging cord of the phone is an accessory that easily gets damaged especially if it is constantly coiled or bent as this will  cause the wires inside to be cut. Try using a new charging cord then check if the issue still occurs.

Use a different wall charger

In some cases a faulty wall charger can cause this particular problem. To check if this is what’s contributing to the problem you should try to use a different charger.

Perform a factory reset

One last troubleshooting step to consider is a factory reset. This will revert your phone back to its original factory condition allowing you to check if the issue is caused by a software glitch. You should backup your phone data before performing this step as it will be deleted in the process.

  • Go to the Start screen.
  • Tap Settings.
  • Scroll down then tap System.
  • Tap Reset
  • Tap Factory data reset.
  • Tap RESET PHONE.
  • Tap RESET PHONE.
  • All data and settings saved on the Huawei P20 Pro will be deleted. The Huawei P20 Pro will automatically reset and reboot.
  • The Huawei P20 Pro has been reset.

If the above steps fails to fix the problem then this is most likely caused by a faulty hardware component already. The best thing to do right now is to bring the phone to a service center and have it checked.
