How To Fix Google Pixel 3XL Is Not Fast Charging

Problem: I purchased an Pixel 3 XL just recently. It has been been working fine, until just today I plugged in the phone and noticed that the fast charging came on, then it immediately reverted to slow charging. Since then my phone will NOT charge with original fast charger that came with it. I have tried my friends chargers(which are fast chargers as well) it does not charge at all unless I use the regular phone charger and attach the pixel charging tip to it. I have done a cache wipe and ensured that my phone charger works on another device..Please help!

Solution: Before performing any troubleshooting steps on the phone you will have to make sure that it is running on the latest software version. If an update is available then you should download and install it first.

Clean the charging port of the phone

There are instances when dust or debris can get stuck in the charging port of the phone which when left will cause charging problems. You will need to clean the charging port using a can of compressed air so as to eliminate any particles present in the port.

Try using a different USB cord

The charging cord of the phone is an accessory that easily gets damaged especially if it is constantly coiled or bent. To eliminate the possibility of this problem caused by a damaged USB cord you should try using a different cord.

Try using a different wall charger

If the charger you are using is not providing the correct output power then the phone will not fast charge. If you are able to get your hands on another Pixel charger then try using this. If not then try using a third party charger with an output power of 10 watts.

Perform a factory reset

One last troubleshooting step to consider is a factory reset. This reverts the phone back to its original factory condition.  Make sure to backup your phone data before doing the reset.

  • Go to the phone Settings.
  • Tap System > Advanced > Reset options.
  • Tap Erase all data (factory reset) > Reset phone. If needed, enter your PIN, pattern, or password.
  • To erase all data from your phone’s internal storage, tap Erase everything.
  • When your phone has finished erasing, pick the option to restart.

In case the above steps fails to fix the problem then you should consider having this issue checked at a service center as this could already be caused by a faulty hardware component.
