Fixing a Galaxy A70 that’s stuck on Black Screen of Death

The black screen of death always leaves an impression that your phone has some serious hardware-related issue but in reality, it’s actually just a minor firmware problem, provided that there are no signs of physical or liquid damage. Needless to say, you can fix this problem by doing the procedures below.

First solution: Force restart your Galaxy A70

The first thing you have to do when dealing with a phone that is stuck on the black screen of death is to perform the forced restart. It is a simulated battery removal and will refresh the phone’s memory as well as reload all its apps and services. It might be the only thing you need to do to make your phone respond again and it’s very simple. Here’s how it’s done:

  1. Press and hold the Volume Down button and don’t release it yet.
  2. While holding down the volume button, press and hold the Power key as well.
  3. Keep both keys held down together for 15 seconds or until the Galaxy A70 logo shows on the screen.

If you were able to make your phone respond, then the problem is fixed. However, if the phone didn’t respond or still stuck on the black screen of death after the first try, then do the same procedure a few more times and if it still not responding after that, then it’s a possible problem caused by a drained battery. Move on to the next solution.

Second solution: Charge phone and force restart it

Most of the time, a drained battery is actually not a problem because most devices would respond immediately once connected to the charger. But the thing is, if the battery was completely drained, it’s possible that the firmware crashed just before the phone powered down because some services and components may haven’t been shut down properly. As a result, you’re dealing with a couple of procedures that both results to the black screen of death. To try and fix this, follow these steps:

  1. Plug the charger to a working wall outlet.
  2. Using the original cable, connect the phone to its charger.
  3. Regardless of whether the phone shows the charging symbol or not, leave it connected to the charger for at least 10 minutes.
  4. After which and while the phone is still connected to the charger, press and hold the Volume Down button and don’t release it yet.
  5. While holding down the volume button, press and hold the Power key as well.
  6. Keep both keys held down together for 15 seconds or until the Galaxy A70 logo shows on the screen.

If the phone is still stuck on the black screen of death after doing these procedures, then it’s a possible hardware problem. You must bring the phone back to the store or shop so that a technician can check it up for you.

If you were able to fix this problem but it occurs every now and then, then the best thing you can do is reset your phone because it’s clear that the problem is with the firmware. However, prior to the reset, make sure to create a copy of your important files and data because they will all be deleted. Also, if possible, remove your Google account prior to the reset so that you won’t be locked out of your phone. When ready, follow these steps to reset your phone:

  1. Turn off the device.
  2. Press and hold the Volume Up key and the Bixby key, then press and hold the Power key.
  3. When the Galaxy A70 logo shows, release all three keys.
  4. Your Galaxy A70 will continue to boot up into the Recovery Mode. Once you see a black screen with blue and yellow texts, proceed to the next step.
  5. Press the Volume down key several times to highlight ‘wipe data / factory reset’.
  6. Press Power button to select.
  7. Press the Volume down key until ‘Yes’ is highlighted.
  8. Press Power button to select and start the master reset.
  9. When the master reset is complete, ‘Reboot system now’ is highlighted.
  10. Press the Power key to restart the device.

I hope that this troubleshooting guide has been able to help you fix your Galaxy A70 that’s stuck on the black screen of death
