How to fix a Samsung Galaxy A70 that won’t turn on

When a smartphone like the Samsung Galaxy A70 suddenly powered down and won’t turn on, the problem could either be with the hardware or the software. As the owner, you should be the first one to know if the phone has suffered a drop that may have caused some physical damage, or if it has splashed with or submerged in water that caused the liquid damage. If none of these happened, then the problem should be pretty minor and you should be able to fix it on your own.

What to do with your Galaxy A70 that won’t turn on

More often than not, when a smartphone powers down by itself and would no longer turn on or respond, such issue is caused by a system crash. It’s a pretty minor software-related issue that leaves your phone to become unresponsive. Needless to say, it won’t respond if you hold the power key nor connect it to the charger. But don’t worry, it’s pretty easy to fix. 

First solution: Perform the Forced Restart

If you’re old enough to have owned mobile phones that have removable batteries, then this procedure should not come as a surprise. The forced restart is actually a simulated battery removal. Back in the day, when the phone hangs and won’t respond, we simply had to remove the battery and that should solve the problem. Today however, most of the smartphones have IP-certification or are already resistant to dust and liquid, thus they have non-removable batteries. That’s the reason why this procedure exists. 

This is how you do it: 

1. Press and hold the Volume Down button and don’t release it yet. 
2. While holding down the volume button, press and hold the Power key as well. 
3. Keep both keys held down together for 15 seconds or until the Galaxy A70 logo shows on the screen.

The moment the logo shows on the screen, that’s a sign that the problem is fixed as the phone already responded. However, if the phone remains unresponsive, then try doing the same procedure a few more times before moving on to the next solution.

Second solution: Charge your phone and do the Forced Restart

Most of the time, when the phone does not respond with the first solution and that there are no signs of physical or liquid damage, this procedure will fix it. We know that connecting the phone to the charger won’t make it respond if the firmware has crashed. But it’s also possible that the phone powered down due to an empty battery and that the firmware has crashed just before the phone actually powered off. As a result, you have two pretty minor issues with your phone that both result in an unresponsive phone. To rule out this possibility, here’s what you need to do: 

1. Plug the charger to a working wall outlet. 
2. Using the original cable, connect the phone to its charger. 
3. Regardless of whether the phone shows the charging symbol or not, leave it connected to the charger for at least 10 minutes. 
4. After which and while the phone is still connected to the charger, press and hold the Volume Down button and don’t release it yet. 
5. While holding down the volume button, press and hold the Power key as well. 
6. Keep both keys held down together for 15 seconds or until the Galaxy A70 logo shows on the screen.

If you were able to fix the problem by using any of these procedures but it recurs every now and then, your next move should be to reset your device as it is clearly a firmware issue that needs to be addressed.

Prior to the reset, make sure to create a backup of your important files and data, and then remove your Google account so that you won’t be locked out. When ready, follow these steps to reset your phone: 

1. Turn off the device.
2. Press and hold the Volume Up and Power keys.
3. When the Galaxy A70 logo shows, release all three keys.
4. Your Galaxy A70 will continue to boot up into the Recovery Mode. Once you see a black screen with blue and yellow texts, proceed to the next step. 
5. Press the Volume down key several times to highlight ‘wipe data / factory reset’.
6. Press Power button to select.
7. Press the Volume down key until ‘Yes’ is highlighted.
8. Press Power button to select and start the master reset.
9. When the master reset is complete, ‘Reboot system now’ is highlighted.
10. Press the Power key to restart the device.

On the other hand, if your phone still won’t turn on after doing these procedures, then the best thing you can do is bring it to the tech because it could be a hardware problem. After all, there’s only so much you can do about a phone that won’t turn on.
