How to troubleshoot Galaxy A6 2018 that’s running so slow

Before you troubleshoot your device, check and ensure that has ample of internal storage space. This is a must do if you’re fond of downloading complex apps like games or multimedia contents. Once you’ve verified that the phone’s memory status is good and yet it is still running very slowly, you can go ahead and begin troubleshooting. Here are your options.

First solution: Quit all background apps then reboot system.

Background apps are apps you’ve recently used but not closed. Technically, these apps are in standby mode but still running in the background. That said, they’re still using up space of your phone’s internal memory. While keeping apps running in the background offers benefits in terms of multitasking or reloading of similar apps, they can also cause conflict to other apps or system functions when they crash or get corrupted. To make sure this isn’t what’s causing your Galaxy A6 2018 smartphone to slow down, try to quit all background apps and then reboot your device. Here’s how:

  1. Launch the Recent apps menu/key. A list of running apps preview will then appear.
  2. Tap and hold on the app then swipe it to the right. Doing so will end the process or app from running and free up some space of your phone’s internal memory.
  3. Alternatively, you can navigate to Settings-> Application Manager-> All apps-> then scroll to the app(s) that’s running.
  4. Click on the app, then tap Force Stop option to end the process.

After ending all running apps, soft reset/reboot your phone to dump cache files from the internal memory. Here’s how:

  1. Press the Power button until the menu appears.
  2. Then tap the option to Power Off.
  3. After 30 seconds, you can press the Power button again until the device restarts.
  4. Alternatively, you can simultaneously press and hold the Power button and the Volume Down button on the side until the phone restarts.

This won’t affect any data you’ve stored on the internal memory, hence won’t result to data loss. That said, you don’t need to create backups beforehand.

Second solution: Boot into safe mode and diagnose apps.

All third-party apps are temporarily disabled while in safe mode, so you can easily determine if the problem is isolated to the built-in apps or third-party apps. Here’s how to enable safe mode on your Galaxy A6 2018 smartphone:

  1. Press and hold the Power button until the phone vibrates, and the Samsung logo appears then release the Power button.
  2. With the Samsung Galaxy logo still on screen, press the Volume Down button.
  3. Keep holding the Volume Down button until Safe Mode appears in the lower-left corner of the Home screen or lock screen.
  4. You can release the Volume button by then.

If your phone is not slowing down while in safe mode, then a third-party app is to blame. To fix the problem, you will need to remove the culprit. You can start deleting the most recent app you’ve downloaded prior to the onset of the problem. Don’t forget to test your device to see if the problem is fixed or not after uninstalling individual apps.

Third solution: Wipe cache partition.

This can be the key to fixing the problem if it’s triggered by a faulty update. Cache or temporary files and data stored on the system folders might have been corrupted from the update and thereby caused the system to act up. To rule this out, wipe cache partition with these steps:

  1. Power off your device completely.
  2. Then press and hold the Power and Volume Up buttons simultaneously for a few seconds.
  3. Release the buttons when the Android screen appears and the phone loads in Recovery mode.
  4. Press the Volume Down button several times to scroll to and highlight Wipe Cache Partition from the given options then press the Power button to confirm selection.
  5. Wait until the phone has finished wiping cache from the system partition. You will then see the Reboot system now option highlighted.
  6. To restart your device, press the Power button.

Fourth solution: Update software to the latest Android version available.

It’s recommended to keep your device software up-to-date, to keep the system optimized. If you haven’t updated to the latest Android version yet, then try to check if it’s available on your phone. Here’s how:

  1. Navigate to Settings.
  2. Tap About device.
  3. Tap Software update.
  4. Tap Update now or Download updates manually.

Your phone must be connected to the Internet to complete the update file download and installation. Aside from Internet, ample power and memory space are also among the requisites to meet.

Fifth solution: Master reset/factory data reset.

This will be your last ditch solution if the previous workarounds failed to offer a resolution. The problem might be too complex that it requires a full system wipe out. Should you wish to continue, back up all your important data as they will also be deleted in the process. Then follow these steps whenever you’re all set to reset your Galaxy A6 2018 to factory defaults.

  1. Tap Settings from the Main Menu.
  2. Scroll to and tap General Management.
  3. Tap Reset.
  4. Select Factory data reset from the given options.
  5. Tap Reset to continue.
  6. Tap Delete All to confirm deletion of all your data.

You can also perform a master reset through Android system recovery mode. Here’s how it’s done:

  1. With your device powered off, press and hold the Power and Volume Up buttons simultaneously for a few seconds.
  2. Release the buttons when the Android screen appears and the phone loads in Recovery mode.
  3. Press the Volume Down button to highlight Wipe data/Factory reset option.
  4. Then press the Power button to confirm selection. When the factory data reset is finished, the Reboot System Now option is highlighted.
  5. Press the Power button to confirm and reboot your device to apply the recent changes and refresh the operating system.

After the reset, you can proceed with the initial device setup. Should the problem is attributed to a software error, then it should be resolved at this point. Otherwise, your device needs service.
