How to find how many cores you have
To check how many cores you have, press Control, Shift, and Escape simultaneously to open the task manager. Or, you can search in the Windows 10 Search bar for Task Manager. You can also access it by right-clicking on the taskbar.
Once you’re in Task Manager, go to More Details and select the Performance tab. Select CPU from the left panel and see the Cores entry. This should show you how many cores you have in your CPU, signifying whether it’s a dual-core, quad-core, octa-core, or higher. Cores are usually labelled in increments of two.
Why is this important?
When it comes down to it, knowing how many cores in your CPU isn’t super important unless you’re trying to meet some technical specification of a piece of software or are looking at upgrading for faster and better performance. If you’re looking to get some really good quality, performance, and responsiveness out of a program like Photoshop, then you’ll want to make sure that your CPU meets the requirements of the program — not having the right amount of cores can be a huge sign that your computer isn’t ready to handle a program like that.
