Google Duo gets Snapchat-esque features

There are a lot of different apps out there that are copying off Snapchat’s disappearing photo and videos feature. Now, it looks like Google Duo is the latest to join in on the disappearing photo shenanigans.

Duo has first and foremost been a video calling app, a la Skype or FaceTime. But now, users will be able to send each other disappearing photos and videos. They do last much longer than Snapchat though, disappearing after 24 hours. It’s almost like Snapchat or Instagram Stories in that way, but not really.

Honestly, we’re not sure what the purpose of this is, nor how this is going to make Duo look more attractive to consumers. It’s really what we’ve come to expect from Google — confusing messages and features that don’t always make sense.

Either way, you can start using this new feature so long as you’re on Duo version 56.
