Installing Chrome on your Steam Deck

There only way to install google chrome app, is to install it in Desktop mode on your Steam Deck device.

Installing Google Chrome in Desktop Mode

Step 1: Press the Steam button.

Step 2: Select Power.

Step 3: Switch to Desktop mode.

Step 4: Open Discover app.

Step 5: Type Google Chrome and select install.

Add Google Chrome in Gaming Mode

After you have downloaded and installed google chrome on Steam Deck you can add it on gaming mode. To do this follow the steps below.

Step 1: Tap the application launcher while in desktop mode.

Step 2: Select google chrome and click it with the left trackpad.

Step 3: Select add to Steam.

Step 4: Go to Gaming mode.

Step 5: Press the Steam button.

Step 6: Go to Library.

Step 7: Go to Non Steam section or Non Steam tab.

Step 8: Choose Google Chrome.

Any programs or games you download from places other than the official Steam Deck store will be first saved on the internal storage, not your microSD card or any other external devices.

You can try to reinstall SteamOS if you cannot install the app. You might have a bug or outdated version.

Reinstalling SteamOS

Step 1: Download the recovery image on Steam.

Step 2: Prepare a USB key (8GB minimum) for recovery image:

• On Windows use the Rufus utility. Select the recovery file and write it to your USB drive.
• On MacOS you can use Balena Etcher to write the recovery file to your USB drive.
• On Linux you can also use Balena Etcher to write the recovery file to your USB drive – or from the command line:
  bzcat steamdeck-recovery-4.img.bz2 | dd if=/dev/stdin of=/dev/sdX oflag=sync status=progress bs=128M(set /dev/sdX to the USB flashdrive you inserted)

Step 3: Use a USB-C adapter or hub to plug the boot disk in.

Step 4: If it isn’t turned off already, turn off your gadget. In order to enter the Boot Manager, hold down the Volume Down button while pressing the Power button. When the chime sounds, release the Volume Down button.

Step 5: In the Boot Manager, boot from the ‘EFI USB’.

Step 6: Once the Steam booted you can choose recovery options.

Re-image – Performs factory reset

Clear local user data – Reformats the home partitions

Reinstall Steam OS – This will reinstall SteamOS

Recovery tools – Make changes to the boot partition.
