How to fix Motorola Moto X4 that won’t turn on after turning off by itself (easy fix)

We have received reports from some of the owners of the Motorola Moto X4 saying that their phones turned off without obvious reason or cause and would no longer turn on. Some did try to charge their units but they reportedly won’t respond to their chargers. It may seem like a hardware and power related issue but based on our experience, it might be something different. In fact, this problem might be more of a firmware issue than a hardware concern.

In this post, I will share with you the solution that we often use to fix similar problems with other phones. This isn’t the first time I encountered this issue so I already know a thing or two that could help bring the phone back to life. The Moto X4 has a non-removable battery so we cannot do the usual “battery pull” trick we often do to phones with removable batteries but there’s another thing I should teach you. So, continue reading to know how to fix this problem.

How to fix Moto X4 that turned by itself and won’t turn on

As I said earlier, having a phone that turned off on its own and would no longer respond when you hit the power key is more of a firmware issue than anything else. In fact, it’s often due to a system crash wherein the firmware stops its operation for some reason and since the hardware isn’t properly turned off, the phone becomes unresponsive as both the firmware and hardware aren’t in sync. But don’t worry, the procedure below will surely help you fix this problem with your Moto X4…

  • Press and hold the Power button for 10 – 20 seconds, the device will restart and go through the boot-up sequence.

In the unlikely event that your device becomes unresponsive, frozen, blank or black screen, or will not respond to the power button, you can perform this method to force your device to boot up or respond. It simulates “battery pull” procedure and is very effective in this type of problems. However, if your phone is still not responding after this, then try doing this procedure…

  1. Plug the original charger to a working AC outlet.
  2. Connect your Moto X4 to its charger using the original cable that came with it in a box.
  3. Regardless whether your phone shows the charging symbol or not, leave it connected to the charger of at least ten minutes.
  4. After that, press and hold the Power key again for 10 to 20 seconds or until it turns on.

It’s basically the same as the Forced Reset but we’re just making sure your phone has a stable power source as it’s possible the battery has already been drained completely.

Assuming that this problem started without any obvious reasons, then it should boot up after doing the procedure above. But in the event wherein the phone remains unresponsive, then you should bring it to the service center for it might be an issue with the hardware. In such case, there’s only so much you can do about it.
