How to fix Samsung Galaxy J5 that keeps freezing (easy steps)

Quick fix to a Galaxy J5 that keeps freezing of lagging
Freezing issues may occur from time to time. In fact, it’s very common to entry-level smartphones. In the case of the the Galaxy J5 though, most of the problems like this started after an update so we can always assume the freezing and other performance issues are due to some corrupt or obsolete system caches. Such is the case with most of the phones that had similar issues in the past and the one thing that fixed the problem is by deleting all system caches so they’d be replaced. Here’s how you do that:
- Turn off the device.
- Press and hold the Volume Up key and the Home key, then press and hold the Power key.
- When the device logo screen displays, release only the Power key
- When the Android logo displays, release all keys (‘Installing system update’ will show for about 30 – 60 seconds before showing the Android system recovery menu options).
- Press the Volume down key several times key to highlight ‘wipe cache partition.’
- Press the Power key to select.
- Press the Volume down key to highlight ‘yes’ and press the Power key to select.
- When the wipe cache partition is complete, ‘Reboot system now’ is highlighted.
- Press the Power key to restart the device.
If the problem continues after doing this method, then you should try troubleshooting your phone as there could be other factors that are responsible for this issue.

Troubleshooting Galaxy J5 that keeps on freezing
There are freezing issues that are caused by third-party apps. In fact, they are also common and so in this guide, I will walk you through in determining what the issue is, what caused it and what needs to be done to fix it. Let’s begin…
Run your phone in Safe mode
This will disable all third-party apps and you would know immediately if it has an immediate effect on the performance of your phone.
- Turn the device off.
- Press and hold the Power key past the screen with the device name.
- When ‘SAMSUNG’ appears on the screen, release the Power key.
- Immediately after releasing the Power key, press and hold the Volume down key.
- Continue to hold the Volume down key until the device finishes restarting.
- Safe mode will display in the bottom left corner of the screen.
- Release the Volume down key when you see ‘Safe Mode’.
If your phone runs normally without freezing in this mode, then it’s clear that there’s an app or more that’s causing the problem. You need to find out which of the apps you downloaded and install are causing this and uninstall them.
- From any Home screen, tap the Apps icon.
- Tap Settings.
- Tap Applications.
- Tap Application manager.
- Tap the desired application
- Tap Uninstall.
- Tap Uninstall again to confirm.
If the phone is still freezing in safe mode, then you have to do the next procedure.
Backup your files and reset your phone
This is a sure-fire method that could fix the freezing and lagging in your phone provided the firmware hasn’t been modified one way or another. If these issues occurred after an update, then you just have to reset your phone to give it a fresh start with its new firmware. However, make sure that you make a backup of your important files and data as they will be deleted during the process.
You also need to disable the Factory Reset Protection so that you won’t be locked out of your device after the reset…
- From the Home screen, tap the Apps icon.
- Tap Settings.
- Tap Accounts.
- Tap Google.
- Tap your Google ID email address. If you have multiple accounts setup, you will need to repeat these steps for each account.
- Tap More.
- Tap Remove account.
- Tap REMOVE ACCOUNT.
Once everything is set and ready, follow these steps to reset your device:
- Turn off the device.
- Press and hold the Volume Up key and the Home key, then press and hold the Power key.
- When the device logo screen displays, release only the Power key
- When the Android logo displays, release all keys (‘Installing system update’ will show for about 30 – 60 seconds before showing the Android system recovery menu options).
- Press the Volume down key several times key to highlight ‘wipe data / factory reset.’
- Press Power button to select.
- Press the Volume down key until ‘Yes — delete all user data’ is highlighted.
- Press Power button to select and start the master reset.
- When the master reset is complete, ‘Reboot system now’ is highlighted.
- Press the Power key to restart the device.
