Problem #1: Cannot type username of secure site using Galaxy S7 Edge

Hello! I have a secure site which i access for work and recently the S7 Edge phone will not let me type in anything in the username box although it will let me type in the password box. Copy and paste will not work as the system knows it’s not me typing it and it is probably a security failsafe. Please help! I have also noticed it with a work WiFi login. The username box will allow me to fill characters in but it seems to go wrong when i get about 4-5 characters in. It then adds any subsequent characters at the beginning of the box!!! In the end i have resorted to adding spaces and then going back and deleting them to make it work. Aaaahhhhhh!!! — Anthea

Solution: Hi Anthea. First off, you want to make sure that it’s not a glitch on your phone’s browser. You can do that by wiping the cache and data of the browser app. Here’s how:

  • Open the Settings menu either through your notification shade (drop-down) or through the Settings app in your app drawer.
  • Navigate down to “Apps”. This may be renamed to something like Applications or Application Manager in OEM skinned versions of Android 6.0.
  • Once in there, click on an application.
  • You’ll now see a list of stuff that gives you information about the app, including Storage, Permissions, Memory Use, and more. These are all clickable items. You’ll want to click on Storage.
  • You should now clearly see the Clear Data and Clear Cache buttons for the application.

If nothing will change after wiping the cache and data of the browser you’re using, try a different one. So, for example, you can try using a Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox for Android if the stock Internet browser doesn’t work. If nothing will still change after that, try wiping the cache partition of the phone. This will ensure that the system cache is fresh. Follow these steps on what to do:

  • Turn off the device.
  • Press and hold the Volume Up key and the Home key, then press and hold the Power key.
  • When the device logo screen displays, release only the Power key
  • When the Android logo displays, release all keys (‘Installing system update’ will show for about 30 – 60 seconds before showing the Android system recovery menu options).
  • Press the Volume down key several times key to highlight ‘wipe cache partition.’
  • Press the Power key to select.
  • Press the Volume down key to highlight ‘yes’ an press the Power key to select.
  • When the wipe cache partition is complete, ‘Reboot system now’ is highlighted.
  • Press the Power key to restart the device.

If all the above procedures won’t fix the issue, contact your company’s IT department so they can check on it. There may be some conditions that must be met in order to access the site via a mobile phone.

Problem #2: Galaxy S7 Edge keyboard issue — auto-capitalize, auto-punctuate, and auto-spacing stop working

Hi there. I wonder if you might be able to help me. So far, nobody has an answer…. I’ve had a Galaxy S7 Edge for about four months. A new glitch just developed a few days ago and I can’t get rid of it. The auto-capitalize, auto-punctuate and auto-spacing functions stop working without me changing anything in “settings”. I’ve tried resetting the Language Input settings a few times, and it works fine for a little while, then it starts happening again. I’ve restarted, reset and tried everything I can think of, but nothing works. It is very frustrating! Any ideas? — Tyson

Solution: Hi Tyson. If the issue happened right after installing a system update, make sure that you wipe the cache partition first. If that won’t fix the issue, the second logical step is to reset the settings of your keyboard app. We are assuming that you’re using the stock Samsung keyboard so here are the steps on how to restore all its settings to default:

  • Open the phone Settings menu.
  • Scroll down to and tap Language and keyboard.
  • Look for the Keyboards and input methods section.
  • Tap Samsung Keyboard.
  • Scroll down to the lowest option and tap Reset settings.

If you’ve already did this procedure before contacting us, then factory reset may help you. Refer to the steps below on how to do it.

On the one hand, if you’re using a third party keyboard app, resetting all settings back to default may also help (the steps should be similar to the ones above).

Problem #3: Galaxy S7 screen turns black and won’t work

Hello. My name is Sofia and I would like you to help me with my phone!! It’s like a big emergency! My phone seems to still work with flashing lights, charging etc but I have tried everything and the screen is not working. When I try to reboot by pressing the power button and the volume down button it flashes on the screen and then turns black again. What should I do to fix this? I was thinking of visiting a mobile shop to have my problem resolved but today is national holiday in Greece. All in the right time at the right place. Thank you for your help and your assistance I hope you answer me as soon as you can! — Sofia

Solution: Hi Sofia. We hope our answer is still in time as of this writing. The thing with screen issues is that they’re mostly caused by hardware malfunction. To check that, try to boot the phone in different boot modes like recovery mode, safe mode, or download mode. If the screen remains black when you try to all three modes, that’s a confirmation that the problem is not due to bad software and you need to have the phone checked for possible damaged screen assembly. To boot in these modes, follow the steps below:

Boot in Recovery mode:

  • Charge the phone for at least 30 minutes.
  • Press and then hold the Home and Volume UP keys, then press and hold the Power key.
  • When the Samsung Galaxy S7 shows on the screen, release the Power key but continue holding the Home and Volume Up keys.
  • When the Android logo shows, you may release both keys and leave the phone be for about 30 to 60 seconds.
  • Using the Volume Down key, navigate through the options and highlight ‘wipe cache partition.’
  • You can either wipe the cache partition or do a factory reset when in this mode.

Boot in Download Mode:

  • Charge the phone for at least 30 minutes.
  • Press and then hold the Home and Volume DOWN keys, then press and hold the Power key.
  • When the Samsung Galaxy S7 shows on the screen, release the Power key but continue holding the Home and Volume DOWN keys.
  • Wait until the Download screen appears.
  • If you can boot the phone in download mode but not in other modes, that means that your only way out may be to flash a stock or custom firmware.
  • Use Google to look for a guide on how to do it.

Boot in safe mode:

  • Charge the phone for at least 30 minutes.
  • Press and hold the Power button.
  • Once the ‘Samsung Galaxy S7’ logo appears, release the Power key and immediately press and hold the Volume Down button.
  • Continue holding the button until the phone finishes rebooting.
  • Once you see the text “Safe mode” at the bottom left corner of the screen, release the Volume Down button.

Again, if nothing changes when you do all these different hardware button combinations, submit the phone for repair or replacement. There’s nothing that you can do to fix it on your end, unless you try and replace the screen assembly yourself. If you want to do that, find another website for a guide. Keep in mind though that you must diagnose the real issue first and replacing the screen may not always result to a solution.

Problem #4: Cannot disable Ultra Power Saving Mode on Galaxy S7

Android Nougat. So I can’t get my S7 out of Ultra low power saving mode for days now because my phone is so limited and there is no option to turn off that mode…because (maybe?) I’m using Package Disabler Pro and had bloatware disabled (plus a few other packages, not a ton). I’m assuming a package is disabled that was part of the process to come out of ultra power saving mode. Nothing I’ve seen online has been able to help me so far because my phone is so limited.

Also, the home button doesn’t work (no home screen), no power settings. I can only use Chrome, Messages, Phone. When I pull down the notification pane, settings is the only option . Safe mode doesn’t change anything or give me more options. Power+Home+Volume Up and clearing cache doesn’t change anything. Taking out the SD card and trying everything doesn’t change anything. My latest thought is to download a Verizon OTA update onto my micro SD and try to ‘update’ my phone to nuke whatever setting isn’t working but I can’t find a ROM to download. I could do a factory reset but of course I haven’t backed up some meaningful pictures, etc. Please help!!!

In appreciation. — Aaron

PS: I’m not sure I have the latest version of Android. I did update whenever Verizon sent out an update so I assume I am. — Aaron

Solution: Hi Aaron. This issue has been around and is known to affect the Galaxy S6 as well. There seems to be no discernable pattern in all reported cases both here in our blog and in other third party Android forums so we cannot say for sure what’s causing it. Needless to say, there’s also no definite solution due to that fact. Samsung is yet to issue an official solution (but we doubt that they will as they appear to be as clueless as we are). The only workarounds for this issue are mentioned in this post: Unable to turn off Ultra Power Saving Mode on Galaxy S6 Edge. If you’ve already tried all of them, then you must be out of luck as the only effective solution is to factory reset your device. Here’s how:

  • Turn off your Samsung Galaxy S7.
  • Using the Volume Down key, navigate through the options and highlight ‘wipe data / factory reset.’
  • Once highlighted, you may press the Power key to select it.
  • Now highlight the option ‘Yes — delete all user data’ using the Volume Down key and press the Power button to select it.
  • Wait until your phone is finished doing the Master Reset. Once completed, highlight ‘Reboot system now’ and press the Power key.
  • The phone will now reboot longer than usual.

Problem #5: Galaxy S7 Edge overheating and won’t turn on | Samsung won’t fix for free accidentally-dropped Galaxy S7 Edge after it overheated

My S7 Edge started out ok but it did an update and i have had problems. First, the speakers started to crackle and go off if you watched a video. you have to use earphones.

Then the phone would not boot up. It would freeze half way through and then go off and it would try again. it kept going through the cycle again and again. each time it went a bit further it took half an hour to finally boot up. It would also freeze if you opened an app or game and same thing with the boot up.

Then one day i went to go get it off charge and it was boiling hot as i picked it up. I had to let it go and it hit the floor and cracked the screen. I had to pick it up with a t-shirt as it was so hot. I contacted Samsung and they arranged for it to be looked at but the morning of the collection it updated and the freezing issue stopped and it booted up first time. It still got hot on charge, too hot to touch.

Now i am in a battle with them because they are saying it will cost $199 to fix as it is physical damaged. I can’t claim i pointed out how the screen cracked because of how hot it was. They claim it got hot because there was some dust in the charger port. Well that’s a design fault. They should have tabs to push in to keep the dust out. Many people are suffering the same problems. Why can’t Samsung admit it’s at fault?

Oh and here is the best part. I sent it to them working; they sent it back and it had no battery life so i could not turn it on. So I put it on charge it said 0%. i left it for an hour, went back, it said 100%. Still will not turn on. I tried holding the different ways of buttons to reset or boot up but nothing so they have made it worse because it doesn’t start up at all. Now where do i stand with this? What is my legal right? — Aaron

Solution: Hi Aaron. Yours is a sad case for sure but there’s nothing much that we can help you in this one. Whether you like it or not, the solution lies with Samsung now. There may be some confusion in Samsung’s end that’s why they won’t fix the bad screen (or other hardware issues) for free. It’s possible that the first Samsung representative you talked to did not properly document the reason why you’re sending in your device, resulting to the service center guys refusing the repair because you missed the “repair fee,” which in the first place should not be there. We don’t work for Samsung and we have no first hand knowledge how their call centers handling technical and repair requests work so we can only speculate. Difficult and frustrating this should be for you, we still recommend that you contact Samsung again and clear things up before sending the phone for repair again.

As regards your legal right, we don’t think we’re the right party to advise you about it. Try reviewing the papers associated with your device, especially the warranty so you have an idea about them. We know warranty documents are sometimes worded in alien language for most folks but basically, it should say that free repair can only be done if there’s no appearance of customer misuse (which includes accidental drops, water damage, exposure to elements, etc.). Since you dropped your phone due to device overheating, which may be difficult to prove, you must exert all effort to convince the Samsung representative that the drop was caused by Samsung device overheating in the first place. We know that’s easier said than done but you may want to use a combination of charms and threats to get the thing done.

Also, try to talk to Samsung’s legal department so you can better air your rights as a consumer.

Problem #6: Galaxy S7 Edge system notification sound keeps reverting to a different one

I was searching for an issue I am having with my S7 Edge. The system notification sound when changed, plays for a while, then reverts back to the low toned default after a few hours. The sound plays in any other notification I place it under. The sound I am using came with the phone so the format should be just fine. It is driving me crazy. Plus, even after I receive a notification from another app, WhatsApp for example, the system notification will sound also and continue to sound until I open the message. One notification from the app is all I need, not two. This also is driving me crazy. — Jim

Solution: Hi Jim. Did you try something different (like install an app or update) before noticing this issue? If you did, try removing the app from the phone or uninstall the update (if it was for a specific app) to see the difference. Otherwise, try the basic software troubleshooting mentioned in this post such as wiping the cache partition, booting in safe mode, and factory reset.

Also, keep in mind that some apps like the ones that claims to optimize performance can refresh the system cache and even change some settings without your knowledge, resulting to unusual or erratic behavior of apps. If you are fond of installing such apps, try to boot the phone in safe mode for a few hours and replicate the issue. If the issue won’t occur while safe mode is on, then that’s a sign that a third party app is to blame. To fix the problem, you must uninstall third party apps until the issue is gone.

1 thought on “Cannot disable Ultra Power Saving Mode on Galaxy S7, other issues”

  1. Hello,

I have some a couple questions that I would like to ask and this place seems to be a good place to do so. I have an S7, I have noticed that when I turn on the Maximum Power Saving Mode, it works great. However, when I then turn it off and go back to the regular mode, some of my setting are not restored properly. Specifically my keyboard ( I have used both Gboard and another 3rd party kb that I like better), and any apps that apply overlays (LastPass, Cornerfly, Tasker, etc.) are all left off. I have to go and manually change keyboards in the settings and manually re-activate the other named apps in the settings as well.
Now, to be honest, I really don’t care about the overlays, I can deal with that in the settings and it is of no bother. ( I would LOVE to find a way to make them reactivate when I turn off Max Power Saving but I am not that concerned) BUT, I really can not stand the fact that my keyboard does not get set to the one I have chosen but always stays on the Samsung kb.

question is: Am I not doing something correctly? Is there a setting I can change to have these particular things re-activated when I exit Max Power Saving? Or is there an app (without root) I can install that will restore those settings for me?
