Android Can’t Send Picture Messages (MMS)? Try These Fixes
If your Android phone can send texts but cannot send picture messages, the issue is usually related to mobile data, APN settings, or messaging app glitches. Follow the troubleshooting methods below to restore MMS sending on Android.
Method 1: Turn On Mobile Data
MMS requires mobile data on most carriers, even when Wi-Fi is connected. Enabling mobile data is the quickest way to fix failed picture messages.
- Open Settings on your phone.
- Tap Connections or Network & internet.
- Tap Mobile network.
- Turn Mobile data on.
- Disable Wi-Fi temporarily for testing.
- Send a picture message again.
Method 2: Check Signal and Account Status
Weak signal or an account restriction can block MMS delivery. Confirming network service helps rule out carrier-side issues early.
- Check the signal bars on your phone.
- Move to an area with stronger cellular coverage.
- Open your carrier app (if available) and verify your plan is active.
- Confirm your plan includes MMS/data service.
- Restart the phone.
- Try sending MMS again.
Method 3: Verify APN Settings
Incorrect APN details are a common reason MMS fails on Android. Correct APN values allow your phone to route picture messages properly.
- Open Settings > Mobile network > Access Point Names.
- Select your carrier APN profile.
- Check fields like MMSC, MMS proxy, and MMS port.
- Compare them with the official APN settings from your carrier.
- Correct any mismatched values and save changes.
- Restart the phone and test MMS.
Method 4: Clear Messages App Cache
Messaging app cache corruption can prevent MMS from processing attachments. Clearing cache refreshes temporary files without deleting message history.
- Go to Settings > Apps.
- Tap your messaging app (Google Messages or Samsung Messages).
- Tap Storage or Storage & cache.
- Tap Clear cache.
- Reopen the messaging app.
- Send a test picture message.
Method 5: Reset Network Settings
This reset fixes hidden network configuration issues affecting MMS and mobile data. It restores default settings for Wi-Fi, mobile, and Bluetooth.
- Open Settings.
- Tap General management (Samsung) or System.
- Tap Reset or Reset options.
- Select Reset network settings.
- Confirm the action.
- Reconnect to your network and test MMS.
Method 6: Update or Reinstall the Messaging App
Outdated app builds can break MMS compatibility on newer Android versions. Updating or reinstalling the app installs clean files and bug fixes.
- Open the Google Play Store.
- Search for your messaging app.
- Tap Update if available.
- If no fix, uninstall the app (or uninstall updates) and reinstall.
- Set it as the default SMS app if prompted.
- Send another picture message to verify.
Yes same problem, I cannot send a picture to my wife, just fails over and over. It was working before these updates…..Updates are broken imo.
Why is this so complicated. I just want to take a picture and send it to my Email. Have been trying for two days, no fix.
