8 Ways To Fix Unresponsive Apps And System Freezes On Android
Restart Your Device
If your Android device or an app is unresponsive, the simplest and often most effective solution is to restart your device. This action can resolve many temporary issues that cause apps to crash or the system to freeze.
- Power Cycle: Press and hold the Power button for about 30 seconds until your phone restarts. For some devices, you may need to hold down the Volume Down button simultaneously.
- Normal Restart: If your device is not frozen, simply go to the Settings app, tap on System, and then select Restart.
Update Your Android Operating System
Outdated software can lead to compatibility issues with apps, causing them to crash or the system to freeze. Ensure your Android operating system is up to date.
- Check for Updates: Open the Settings app, navigate to System > System update, and follow the on-screen instructions to update your device.
Update the Problematic App
Sometimes, an app itself may need an update to fix bugs or compatibility issues.
- Update via Play Store: Open the Google Play Store app, tap the profile icon at the top right, select Manage apps & devices, and choose to update all apps or the specific app that is causing issues.
Force Stop the App
Forcing an app to stop can sometimes resolve issues if the app is malfunctioning.
- Force Stop: Go to Settings > Apps > See all apps, select the problematic app, and tap Force stop. Confirm by tapping OK.
Clear App Cache and Data
Clearing an app's cache and data can remove corrupted files that might be causing the app to crash.
- Clear Cache and Data: Open Settings, choose Apps (or Apps & notifications), select the app, and then tap Storage (or Storage & cache). Tap Clear cache and Clear data.
Free Up Storage Space
Low storage space can cause apps to malfunction. Freeing up space can help resolve these issues.
- Check Storage: Open Settings, navigate to Storage, and see how much space is available. Remove unnecessary files, photos, or apps to free up space.
Restart in Safe Mode
Safe mode temporarily disables all third-party apps, which can help identify if a third-party app is causing the issue.
- Enter Safe Mode: Press and hold the Power button until the Safe mode option appears, and tap OK. If the problem goes away in safe mode, it indicates a third-party app is causing the issue. Remove recently downloaded apps one by one to identify the problematic app.
Factory Data Reset
As a last resort, if all other methods fail, a factory data reset can restore your device to its original settings, removing all data and apps.
- Backup Data: Before performing a factory reset, back up your data through Settings > Backup and reset.
- Factory Reset: Go to Settings > Backup and reset > Factory data reset > Reset device. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the reset.
Update Android System WebView
In some cases, issues with Android System WebView can cause apps to crash. Updating this component can resolve such problems.
- Update WebView: Open the Google Play Store, search for Android System WebView, and update it if an update is available.
Since it happens with multiple apps from different developers (mostly games) and everything you suggest has been done more than once without lasting relief, is it just a universal glitch that affects all Android devices? It’s a daily occurrence on my Lenovo tablet and I have seen it on both Motorola and Nokia phones though the tablet is the worst. Do I need a better tablet?
Why can’t I use my usps.com dashboard that is frozen and I am losing mail sent back, and it cannot be used because it seems to be blocked from use in the settings system, and don’t use it every day because I live outside the city limits, not won’t to treck to the PO every day when I am not sure if I have mail , just to save battery power, I usually check every other day
How do you actually find out which app is the problem?
System UI crashes often on Motorola phone how do I fix it please ?
