Manage the life of your people carefully and you may just find that Dwarf Fortress is a lot more than just a complicated game. With all the guides and advice you can find on the internet, you should not have a problem.

Dwarf Fortress allows you to construct and build Dwarf fortresses, for which your dwarven people will survive, and prosper. Much like rimworld, and several other titles in this list, you should be clever about how you manage and use your resources. Build into the depths of the earth, crafting and constructing a massive citadel that will overshadow any other fortress.

3) Oxygen Not Included

Oxygen Not Included is actually extremely similar to Rimworld. Oxygen Not included comes in from a different perspective; however, the premise is essentially the same. Like Rimworld, Oxygen Not Included puts the player in full control of their colony. Trapped on a foreign world, you must ensure that your colony survives and prospers.

Ensure that you use logic when building your base, as there are many variables to take into account, and disease is just one of them. The difficulty of this game may be off putting, but the design and thought that went into this wonderful game is something that can easily be appreciated. 4) Starship Theory

With a unique concept and enjoyable mechanics, you may find that Starship Theory brings a very entertaining turn to the sci-fi genre. Traveling through the overwhelmingly vast darkness of space, you must continue to survive and escape the terrors of the universe.

You’ll also have to constantly build and upgrade your ship or space station to take on new threats. As you travel, be sure to collect resources through the mining of asteroids via a mining laser. With a UI that offers a large amount of options, you may begin with a bit of confusion, but as you continue through the game you should quickly grasp and understand Starship Theory.

5) Civitatem

In Civitatem, your village has been raided, and anything of use has been put to the torch. With no other hope for survival, and no hope of returning, you and the survivors travel far east, intent on rebuilding your lost home. Civitatem brings a medieval style city building sim and/or base building that allows you to design and create your own city for which to survive.

Manage resources and ensure that you and your people stock enough food to last the winter, for grain will not grow in the winter, neither will you find many animals wandering about in the cold. Being put into an omniscient position similar to Rimworld, you do get a physical avatar unlike Rimworld. While still being developed, Civitatem does look promising.

6) Gnomoria

Gnomoria is another sandbox village management game. You’re tasked with helping lead a small group of gnomes to find shelter, create a village, and eventually thrive into a bustling kingdom. The game is truly sandbox, because anything you see can be broken down and rebuilt elsewhere — the sky is the limit.

You’ll be able to do a lot to customize your own kingdom — you can craft items, build structures, set traps, and dig deep underground in search of precious resources to help your gnomes survive the harsh world. But be weary — you’ll also have to defend your kingdom against invading enemies.

Gnomoria is a procedurally generated world, so every new map is different — they aren’t the same. Graphics aren’t super detailed, as they have more of a retro style to it.

6) StarSector

StarSector is another worth looking at. Launched in 2018, this space simulator game is an open-world, single-player space-combat, roleplaying, exploration, and economic game. You will take on the role of a space captain seeking fortune and glory — how you achieve those means is all up to you.

The game is still in-development, so it’s certainly not all finished. You can still play it in the meantime. Right now, these are some of the major features that are available:
