When your Samsung Galaxy S9 tells you that it has detected moisture in the charger port, you should believe it because it’s probably true. The feature to detect moisture in the port comes with IP68 rating.

The Galaxy S9 moisture detected error shows even if there’s just a small drop of liquid in the port and the charging process is halted to prevent further damage. In this post, I will share with you things that you can do to get rid of the error and even bypass it if you badly need to charge your phone. But bear in mind that if you neglect it, your device might suffer from liquid damage which may also result to some very complicated issues.

How to fix Galaxy S9 moisture detected error

First of all, the ‘moisture detected’ message is actually not a problem but simply a notification. It offers a solution than cause a problem unless it pops up even if the phone is totally dry like what happened to some of the S9 units last year. With such possibility, we need to determine if there really is a valid reason why the error shows in the first place. With that being, here’s what I suggest you do about it…

Reboot Your Phone To Fix Galaxy S9 moisture detected Error

The Galaxy S9 moisture detected error is handled by a service that also has a tendency to crash from time to time. When it happens, the error may pop up even if the phone’s charger port is totally dry. To address it, you just need to reboot your phone normally because that often fixes minor glitches in the system or hardware.

So, hit that power key and restart your phone. After that and the error is still showing up, try doing the Forced Restart by pressing and holding the volume down and power keys at the samet time for 10 seconds or until the phone restarts. This simulates battery disconnect which refreshes your phone’s memory, closes all apps running in the background and reloads all functions and services.

If the error is still showing up whenever you connect the phone to its charger, then try doing the next step.

Clean the Charger Port To Fix Galaxy S9 moisture detected Error

As the owner, you should know if there’s a reason for your phone to pop the ‘moisture detected’ error up. For instance, if you took a phone underwater or if the phone got splashed with water and then this issue started, then it’s more likely that there’s moisture in the port. To address that, you simply have to clean the area.

You may use a cotton swab or a small piece of tissue paper that you have to insert into the port so that the moisture will be absorbed. Just make sure that you don’t damage the pins. You may also just let the phone sit on the table upright and leave it for a couple of hours for the port to dry out. If you want to do this, then turn the phone off.

Aside from cleaning the port, you should also check the cable that you use to connect your phone to its charger. If it’s wet or has moisture, the same thing will happen. You just shake the cable a few times to get rid of the moist or you may give it a blast of compressed air.

However, if you’re pretty sure that the phone didn’t get in contact with water and if the error started showing up after an update, it’s possible that the problem is with the caches and/or system files. In this case, you need to do the next procedure.

Backup Your Data and Reset Your Phone To Fix Galaxy S9 moisture detected Error

That’s right! A reset will be able to fix this issue provided it’s caused by a firmware problem. So, make a backup of your important files and data, disable the factory reset protection and then follow these steps to reset your Galaxy S9.  Keep in mind, you will lose all data on the phone if you proceed with this step.  Which means all your contacts, emails, and text messages will be deleted.  But all you need to do is backup your phone and restore your data after this step.

If you’re wondering how to disable the factory reset protection, you simply have to remove your google account from your phone. You do this so that you won’t be locked out after the reset.

  1. Turn off the device.
  2. Press and hold the Volume Up key and the Bixby key, then press and hold the Power key.
  3. When the green Android logo displays, release all keys (‘Installing system update’ will show for about 30 – 60 seconds before showing the Android system recovery menu options).
  4. Press the Volume down key several times to highlight ‘wipe data / factory reset’.
  5. Press Power button to select.
  6. Press the Volume down key until ‘Yes — delete all user data’ is highlighted.
  7. Press Power button to select and start the master reset.
  8. When the master reset is complete, ‘Reboot system now’ is highlighted.
  9. Press the Power key to restart the device.

How to charge your Galaxy S9 even with moisture detected error

You can actually bypass the error and make your phone charge normally. You may need to charge your phone before a reset to make sure the process isn’t interrupted or if you need to backup your files and there’s not enough battery to do so. Here are the things you can do to make your device charge…

  • Turn your phone off and then connect it to its charger. Remember that for the error show up, the phone should be powered on.
  • Use a wireless charger. The notification shows if the phone detects moisture in the charger port. When charging wirelessly, the charger port is not used so the error won’t show up.
  • Charge the phone in safe mode. In case you’re waiting for a message from someone and you badly need to charge your phone while it’s powered on, you can do so while in safe mode.

This is how you run your device in safe mode:

  1. Turn the device off.
  2. Press and hold the Power key past the model name screen appearing on the screen.
  3. When SAMSUNG appears on the screen, release the Power key.
  4. Immediately after releasing the Power key, press and hold the Volume down key.
  5. Continue to hold the Volume down key until the device finishes restarting.
  6. When Safe mode appears in the bottom left corner of the screen, release the Volume down key.
