Verizon Quietly Announces Stream TV Set Top Box with 4K HDR and Chromecast Built-In
Verizon has just taken the wraps off the Stream TV set top box which allows you to stream from a wide range of providers as long as they have a presence on Android. This device runs on the Android TV platform which means you get access to the platform’s premier app hub, the Google Play Store. This set top box also comes with Chromecast built-in along with a dedicated button on the device. In terms of streaming quality, Verizon mentions that this device supports 4K HDR content. Further, customers who buy the Stream TV will also get one month of free YouTube TV. This subscription otherwise costs $49.99 per month.
What’s even better is that if you’re an existing Verizon 5G Home customer, you can get the Stream TV box for free. Others will have to shell out $69.99 for the device. Verizon mentions that the Stream TV will come preinstalled with the Disney+ app by default, allowing you to get started with streaming right away. For those unaware, some Verizon unlimited data customers are eligible for a free year of Disney+, so be sure to check with the carrier for more details on this front.
The Stream TV box gives you smart assistant controls thanks to Google Assistant, helping you out with everyday tasks and queries while also aiding home automation. The Stream TV comes with a single Ethernet port and an HDMI port for connectivity. Since this uses cloud storage, customers can theoretically get unlimited DVR space. It can currently be purchased from official Verizon channels, including its online store.
