Solved Samsung Galaxy S8 Trash Can Icon On Screen

The #Samsung #Galaxy #S8 is a former flagship Android phone released last year that’s best known for ditching the physical home button. This allows the device to have a much larger 5.8 inch Super AMOLED display yet have almost the same dimensions as the S7. One year after its release this is still one of the most powerful mobile devices out in the market thanks to its Snapdragon 835 processor or Exynos 8895 processor combined with 4GB of RAM. Although this is a solid performing phone there are instances when certain issues can occur which we will be addressing today. In this latest installment of our troubleshooting series we will tackle the Galaxy S8 trash can icon on screen issue and other related problems.

S8 Trash Can Icon On Screen

Problem: My Galaxy s8 has an issue about 1x every 2 months. A large (2x normal icon size) icon of a trash can appears at the top center of the screen. Nothing is able to be accessed on the screen. I can turn on and off the screen using the power button; however, I cannot reset my phone because the screen doesn’t work…I forgot about the hard reset so I’ll have to try that next time. However, I was able to use Bixby to bring up the reset button and that worked when pressed. I haven’t been able to find anything on the net about this issue. Any ideas? This has happened under the last 2 versions at least of Android on this phone.

Solution: It looks like you might have installed an app that is causing this problem. The most common culprit are cleaner or memory booster apps. To check if this is the case you should start the phone in Safe Mode. When the phone operates in this mode only the pre-installed apps are allowed to run. If the problem does not occur in this mode then it could be caused by an app you downloaded. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.

In case the issue still occurs in Safe Mode then I suggest that you backup your phone data then do a factory reset.

S8 Retrieving Data From BSOD

Problem: I’m getting the black screen of death and have tried everything on your website to no Avail. I’ve already picked up a new phone but I use Signal as a secure Messaging app and unfortunately all of my text messages are currently unretrievable. Would love to find a way to connect the phones with smart switch but without use of the screen I can’t turn on USB file sharing

Solution: Unfortunately there is no way that you can access the data stored in the phone unless the screen is working. If the data is important then you should have the phone repaired at a service center first before you can retrieve your data.

S8 Deleting Extra Home Screen

Problem: Hi I’m not tech savvy in the least. I have the S8 and I’m not sure if it works the same as the S7. If it’s not the same, just regard this and if it is I’m wondering how to get rid of the extra home screens or whatever they’re called. I pinch the screen it opens a blank page with a plus symbol in the middle or a homeplace symbol at the top of the page. When I tap the round control button that brings me to homescreen (sorry I have no idea what these are called) it is a blank screen and I can’t delete it or switch back to my original homescreen

Solution: Just follow the steps listed below to delete the extra home screens.

  • From your home screen, choose and hold a blank area of the screen.
  • Swipe to the left until you come to the home screen you wish to delete, and choose Delete.

S8 Widget Different After Update

Problem: installed updates on my Samsung S8 overnight. When I woke up I had to pick one of two options which appeared as two icons in order to use the phone. I have no idea what these were but whichever one I used has made the time and weather widget appear differently. For example the yellow doesn’t appear in the sun. It it not easy mode as I have checked that standard mode is clicked

Solution: Are you using a third party launcher on your phone? If you are then this might be what is causing the problem. Try uninstalling this launcher then use the default  TouchWiz launcher instead.

In case you are using the TouchWiz launcher and this problem still occurs then I recommend that you backup your phone data then do a factory reset. Once the reset is complete and you are presented with the two options again make sure to choose the one that you did not choose the first time around.
