How to Fix PS5 Controller Won’t Connect or Sync

A PS5 controller that will not sync is usually caused by pairing state issues, cable problems, or wireless interference. Use this sequence to restore connection quickly and avoid repeating random fixes.

Method 1: Pair with USB cable first

Wired pairing is the fastest way to re-establish trust between the console and controller. It also bypasses temporary Bluetooth issues.

  1. Use a USB-C cable that supports data transfer.
  2. Connect controller directly to PS5.
  3. Press the PS button once.
  4. Wait for the user profile selection screen.
  5. Disconnect cable only after wireless control works.

Method 2: Reset controller hardware

A hardware reset clears corrupt pairing memory on the controller. This is often required after syncing to another device.

  1. Power off PS5.
  2. Press and hold the reset hole button on controller for 5 seconds.
  3. Turn PS5 back on.
  4. Reconnect by USB and press PS button to pair again.

Method 3: Remove Bluetooth conflicts

Nearby paired devices can steal the controller connection. Removing those conflicts helps the PS5 pair cleanly.

  1. Forget DualSense from phones, tablets, and PCs previously paired.
  2. Turn off nearby Bluetooth accessories temporarily.
  3. Keep controller within 1–2 meters of PS5.
  4. Retry pairing through USB, then test wireless input.
