How to Search Within a Specific YouTube Channel: A Step-by-Step Guide
In the vast expanse of YouTube, finding a specific video within a particular channel can be a daunting task, especially if you are relying on the mobile app. However, with the right steps, you can efficiently search for videos within a specific YouTube channel, whether you are using a desktop or a mobile device.
Using a Desktop
To search for videos within a specific YouTube channel on a desktop, follow these straightforward steps:
- Open YouTube: Start by navigating to YouTube.com using your favorite web browser.
- Go to the Channel: Find and click on the YouTube channel you want to search within. For example, if you want to search for videos on Gary Vaynerchuk's channel, simply click on his channel name from the video title or search for it in the search bar.
- Use the Search Function: Once you are on the channel's homepage, look for the magnifying glass icon, which is the search button. Click on this icon to open the search field.
- Enter Your Search Query: Type in your search query or the title of the video you are looking for and hit enter. This will generate a list of search results that are specific to that channel.
- Review Search Results: Scroll through the results to find the video you are interested in. All the videos listed will be from the selected channel, making it easier to locate the one you need.
Using a Mobile Device
The process is slightly different when using a mobile device, as the YouTube app does not support channel-specific searches. Here’s how you can do it:
- Open a Web Browser: Since the YouTube app does not allow channel-specific searches, you need to open a web browser on your mobile phone (e.g., Safari, Chrome).
- Navigate to YouTube: Type "youtube.com" in the address bar and go to the YouTube web page.
- Search for the Channel: In the search bar at the top of the screen, type the name of the channel you want to search within. As you type, YouTube will provide suggestions based on your input. Select the correct channel from the search results to navigate to its main page.
- Access the Channel's Search Function: On the channel's main page, look for the search icon (usually represented by a magnifying glass). Tap on this icon to access the video search feature specific to that channel.
- Enter Your Search Query: In the video search bar, enter the keywords or title of the video you're looking for within the channel.
- Review Search Results: After entering your search query, YouTube will display a list of videos from the selected channel that match your criteria. Scroll through the results to find the video you're interested in and tap on it to watch it directly within the channel.
Additional Tips
- Mobile Browser vs. App: It is important to note that the YouTube mobile app does not support searching for specific videos within a channel. Therefore, using a web browser on your mobile device is essential for this functionality.
- Filter Options: While searching for channels or videos, you can also use filter options to narrow down your search results. For example, if you are searching for channels related to a specific topic, you can use the filter icon to select "Channels" under the "Type" section to see only relevant channels.
By following these steps, you can efficiently search for and find specific videos within any YouTube channel, whether you are on a desktop or a mobile device. This method saves time and reduces the frustration of scrolling through endless video lists.
Ok, everyone, Especially Droid Guy, I found it. Channel main page, under the subscribed, visit store, join bar you’ll see HOME VIDEOS SHORTS, etc. Scroll to the right and the last one is SEARCH. Interestingly, same list on app but instead of search there is the STORE button. Is that because the technology isn’t there (unlikely) or because a choice was made? :/
There you have it. Good luck.
Couple is 100% correct. The only search option/magnifying glass is for the all of youtube. Useless. I watch videos on TV and of course no option there. With all our technology and pressure to download apps… sometimes you HAVE to in order to use a site(!)… we shouldn’t have to go back and forth just to access certain options. I’ll quote Jim… Just Stupid
Okay, so it’s like this.
The instructions say:
“On the channel’s main page, look for the search icon (usually represented by a magnifying glass). Tap on this icon to access the video search feature specific to that channel.”
That is an error. There is, in fact, a magnifying glass icon at the top of the specific channel page; but the search it provides is not specific to the channel on whose page it appears. Typing anything at all into it will yield results from the entirety of YouTube, not from the specific channel.
Instead, under the “Subscribe” button, there are the words “Home,” “Videos,” “Playlists,” “Posts,” and “Search.”
You must click on the word “Search;” then you will be able to search within the channel itself.
How dumb that YouTube doesn’t provide a search feature for specific channels on mobile device! How do they think most people view YouTube? Also, when I want to save to a playlist, the playlist box that appears is not in alpha order. Just stupid
