How To Perform Xbox Series X Speed Test

If you are experiencing issues with your online game, such as slow speeds, then you should perform an Xbox Series X speed test. This allows you to check the network speed the console is getting whether on a wired connection or a wireless internet connection.

The Xbox Series X is the latest gaming console of Microsoft that was first released last November 2020.  It has a powerful hardware architecture that allows games to be played at 4K resolution of up to 120 FPS. Some of its features include a faster loading time, Dolby Vision and Atmos support, as well as backward compatibility to hundreds of games just to name a few.

There are instances when playing your favorite online multiplayer game you will experience a lag or even random disconnections. One of the main culprit behind this is an issue with your internet service. The network speed might be slow. This can happen if the download and upload speeds you are getting is not good. To eliminate the possibility of the internet service causing the problem you will need to do a speed test using your Xbox Series X console.

The important data that you want to take note of are the download speed, upload speed, and the ping or latency.

Microsoft has provided the recommended network speeds for the following scenarios.

Online gaming:

  • Minimum download speed of 3 Mbps (or 3,000 Kbps)
  • Minimum upload speed of 0.5 Mbps (or 500 Kbps)
  • Ping of less than 150 milliseconds

SD streaming:

  • Minimum download speed of 1 Mbps (or 1,000 Kbps)
  • Upload speed does not impact streaming
  • Ping of less than 150 milliseconds

HD streaming:

  • Minimum download speed of 3.5 Mbps (or 3,500 Kbps)
  • Upload speed does not impact streaming
  • Ping of less than 150 milliseconds

If the results of the speed test does not meet the recommended network speeds then there are several actions that you can do. If the Xbox is using a Wi-Fi connection then you should consider using an ethernet connection as this is less prone to interferences.

You can also verify the speed test result by running a test on your computer or phone fusing online services such as speedtest.net. If you are getting the same result then you should consider contacting your ISP regarding this matter.

Running a speed test on your Xbox Series X will provide you with information on the state of the internet speed your console is getting. Hopefully, this guide will help you.
