How To Fix the Huawei P20 Pro Mobile Network Not Available Issue

Make sure that your phone is running on the latest software version before you do the troubleshooting steps listed below. If an update is available then I suggest that you download and install it first. It is important that you should check for carrier related software updates as this will usually address carrier related connectivity bugs.

Verify that your area has a good network signal

Your carrier will usually have certain locations that it does not have any service. When you are in this area your phone will usually get the mobile network not available error. To verify if this is a coverage related issue you can check if other devices under the same network are also having the same problem in your immediate vicinity.

However, if you are in an area that has excellent network coverage but your phone is not getting any signal at all then there’s a possibility that the problem is caused by a network outage. You should contact your carrier to verify if there is an outage and if there is none then proceed with the additional troubleshooting steps listed below.

Perform a soft reset

Your phone will usually store temporary data to improve its performance. There are instances when this data can get corrupted and when this happens it can cause this particular issue. You will need to restart the phone as it will remove the temporary data from the device and this step will also reset your phone connection to the network.

  • Press and hold the Power and Volume down key for up to 45 seconds.
  • Wait as the device restarts.

Check your SIM card

There’s a possibility that the problem is caused by an issue with the SIM card. If this is a SIM card related problem then this can be fixed by turning off the phone and removing the SIM card. Wait for a few minutes before reinserting the SIM card back then turn on the phone. Check if the issue still occurs.

You should also try using a different SIM card in your phone to eliminate the possibility of the problem being caused by a defective SIM card.

Verify the roaming status of the phone

You will want to make sure that the roaming status of the phone is off if you are in your home country. This applies to travelers who have just  returned from a different country and still have the roaming status of the device activated.

  • Select Settings.
  • Select Wireless & networks.
  • Select Mobile network.
  • Turn Data roaming off.

Make sure Airplane Mode is off

The airplane mode is a setting of your phone that is turned on when you are in an airplane. When this is activated your phone will not receive or transmit any wireless signals so that it will not interfere with the aircraft electronic equipment. If you are getting the Huawei P20 Pro mobile network not available issue then you should make sure that airplane mode is off or you can try toggling this switch if it is already in the off position.

Change your phone network mode

Make sure that your phone is using the correct network mode that matches the one your carrier is using. For most GSM carriers you will need your phone to be set to 4G or LTE.

  • Tap Settings
  • Tap Wireless & Networks
  • Tap Mobile Network
  • Tap Preferred Network Type
  • Make sure that the preferred network type is set to 4G/3G/2G auto
  • Press the home icon to end the session.

Start the phone in Safe Mode

You might have downloaded an app from the Google Play Store is causing this issue. This can be due to bugs in the app or compatibility issues between the app and your phone. To check if an app you downloaded is causing the problem you will have to start the phone in Safe Mode as only the pre-installed apps are allowed to run in this mode.

  • Power off the phone by holding down the power button for a few seconds.
  • Press and hold the power button and release it when you see the Huawei logo on screen.
  • After releasing the Power key, immediately press and hold the Volume down key.
  • Keep holding the Volume key till the phone completely boots up.
  • Once the phone boots up,  “Safe mode” should appear on the bottom of the screen

In case the issue does not occur in this mode then it is most likely caused by an app you installed. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.

Wipe the cache partition of the phone

There are cases when the cached data stored in the dedicated partition of the phone can become corrupted. When this happens this will usually cause certain issues to occur on the phone. To eliminate the possibility that this is what’s causing the problem you will have to wipe the cache partition of the phone from the recovery mode.

  • Turn off your phone.
  • Press and hold the Volume UP button along with Power button on your  device simultaneously for a few seconds
  • The phone will enter the stock recovery mode
  • Use volume buttons to highlight ‘wipe cache partition’ and use power key to select it
  • Reboot the system once the process is completed

Perform a factory reset

In case the above steps fails to fix the problem then the best way to deal with this right now is to perform a factory reset. Make sure to backup your phone data before doing the reset.

  • Turn off your phone.
  • Press and hold the Volume UP button along with Power button on your  device simultaneously for a few seconds
  • The phone will enter the stock recovery mode
  • Use volume buttons to highlight  select wipe cache/factory reset and use power key to select it
  • Reboot the system once the process is completed

If the issue still persists even after performing the steps listed above then this might already be caused by a faulty hardware component. The best thing to do right now is to bring the phone to a service center and have it checked.
