How To Fix The Huawei Mate 20 Won’t Turn On Issue

How To Fix The Huawei Mate 20 Won’t Turn On Issue

One major issue that can happen on a phone is when it does not turn on. Usually this problem occurs when the device has been physically damaged for example if it is dropped or if it has been in contact with water. When this happens it’s best to have the phone checked at a service center.

There are however instances when the problem can just occur randomly which could indicate that it is caused by a software glitch. Listed below are the troubleshooting steps that you need to perform if this is the case.

Charge the phone

The first thing you will need to do is to make sure that the phone battery is fully charged by following the steps listed below.

  • Clean the charging port of the phone using a can of compressed air. Make sure that any dirt or debris stuck in this port is removed.
  • Fully charge the phone using its wall charger.
  • In case the phone does not charge then try using a different charging cord and wall charger. You should also try charging the phone from a computer USB port in case charging using the wall charger fails to work.

Once the battery has been fully charged try turning on the phone. If it still does not turn on then proceed with the additional troubleshooting steps listed below.

Perform a soft reset

Try to refresh the phone software to eliminate the possibility of the problem being caused by a minor software glitch. Although this is usually done on an unresponsive device it should also work in this case. This can be done easily by simply restarting the device.

  • Press and hold the Power and Volume down key for up to 45 seconds.
  • Wait as the device restarts.

Check if the issue still occurs.

Start the phone in Safe Mode

There are cases when an app you downloaded will cause the Huawei Mate 20 won’t turn on issue on the phone when it is installed. To check if an app you downloaded is causing the problem you will have to start the phone in Safe Mode as only the pre-installed apps are allowed to run in this mode.

  • Power off the phone by holding down the power button for a few seconds.
  • Press and hold the power button and release it when you see the Huawei logo on screen.
  • After releasing the Power key, immediately press and hold the Volume down key.
  • Keep holding the Volume key till the phone completely boots up.
  • Once the phone boots up,  “Safe mode” should be appeared on the bottom of the screen

In case the issue does not occur in this mode then it is most likely caused by an app you installed. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.

Wipe the cache partition of the phone

There are cases when the cached data stored in the dedicated partition of the phone can become corrupted. When this happens this this will usually cause certain issues to occur on the phone. To eliminate the possibility that this is what’s causing the problem you will have to wipe the cache partition of the phone from the recovery mode.

  • Turn off your phone.
  • Press and hold Volume UP button along with Power button on your  device simultaneously for a few seconds
  • The phone will enter the stock recovery mode
  • Use volume buttons to highlight ‘wipe cache partition’ and use power key to select it
  • Reboot the system once the process is completed

Check if the issue still occurs.

Perform a factory reset

In case the above steps fails to fix the Huawei Mate 20 won’t turn on issue then there is a possibility that this is caused by a system glitch. The best way to deal with this right now is to perform a factory reset. Take note that this will erase your phone data.

  • Turn off your phone.
  • Press and hold Volume UP button along with Power button on your  device simultaneously for a few seconds
  • The phone will enter the stock recovery mode
  • Use volume buttons to highlight  select wipe cache/factory reset and use power key to select it
  • Reboot the system once the process is completed.
