How To Fix The Huawei Mate 10 Pro Screen Flickering Issue
Before you do any of the recommended troubleshooting steps for this issue it’s best to make sure that your phone is running on the latest software version. If an update is available then I suggest that you download and install it first. Once the update has been installed you should then proceed with the steps listed below.
One of the most common reasons why your phone screen will flicker is because of a software glitch. You might have installed an app from the Google Play Store that’s causing the problem or some corrupt data exists in the device that is making the screen act this way. Right now we will be concentrating our troubleshooting efforts on the software side of the phone.
Perform a soft reset
The first thing you will want to do is to refresh the phone software. You can do this by restarting the phone. Although this is usually done when the device is unresponsive it is also recommended in this case as refreshing the phone software will usually eliminate any temporary corrupt data that could be causing the problem.
- Press and hold the Power and Volume down key for up to 45 seconds.
- Wait as the device restarts.
Check if the screen flickering issue still occurs.
Start the phone in Safe Mode
An app you downloaded from the Google Play Store could be causing this problem. To check if a downloaded app is causing the problem you will have to start the phone in Safe Mode as only the pre-installed apps are allowed to run in this mode.
- Power off the phone by holding down the power button for a few seconds.
- Press and hold the power button and release it when you see the Huawei logo on screen.
- After releasing the Power key, immediately press and hold the Volume down key.
- Keep holding the Volume key till the phone completely boots up.
- Once the phone boots up, “Safe mode” should be appeared on the bottom of the screen
If the Huawei Mate 10 Pro screen flickering issue does not occur in this mode then it is most likely caused by an app you downloaded and installed. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.
You will need to do a trial and error method to find out the specific app that is causing this problem. Start by uninstalling the last app you downloaded before the issue occurred. If the problem still occurs then uninstall the next app on the list. Once the screen stops to flicker after uninstalling a specific app then that app is the most likely culprit.
Wipe the cache partition of the phone
Sometimes the cached data stored in the dedicated partition of the phone can become corrupted. When this happens this this will usually cause certain issues to occur on the phone. To eliminate the possibility that this is what’s causing the problem you will have to wipe the cache partition of the phone from the recovery mode.
- Turn off your phone.
- Press and hold Volume UP button along with Power button on your device simultaneously for a few seconds
- The phone will enter the stock recovery mode
- Use volume buttons to highlight ‘wipe cache partition’ and use power key to select it
- Reboot the system once the process is completed
Check if the issue still occurs.
Perform a factory reset
In case the above steps fails to fix the Huawei Mate 10 Pro screen flickering issue then chances are this is caused by a system glitch. The best way to deal with this right now is to perform a factory reset. Make sure to backup your phone data before doing the reset.
- Turn off your phone.
- Press and hold Volume UP button along with Power button on your device simultaneously for a few seconds
- The phone will enter the stock recovery mode
- Use volume buttons to highlight select wipe cache/factory reset and use power key to select it
- Reboot the system once the process is completed
Setup the phone, but do not install any apps yet, then check if the issue still occurs. If it does then this might already be caused by a faulty hardware component, possibly the display assembly. The best thing to do right now is to bring the phone to a service center and have it checked.
